I have to get a new dictionary, they seem to have changed the definition of "exact" and I didn't notice.

Swordsmith- EtOH boils at 173F, HOWEVER, the boiling point of the mixture is slightly higher, based on concentration, and the vapor that comes off is also a mix, mostly EtOh but some water. Think of it this way; when making beer, the mash is only about 150-154F, but it steams, as water vapor is bein...

Unfortunately, House Kaffa practices on thursdays as well, and practice is only 5 minutes from my place, so... Thursday, ~7PM, at the Allen's Lane Art Center, Allen's Lane and MacCallum Sts., Phila. I used a product called "CLR", which is sold to clean mineral and rust stains from household items and pipes. It's acidic, andd has to be rinsed off. I then WD40d it to exclude the water, final step will be to degrease it again and use silicon spray. Leaking shed? Count yourself lucky; I had to deal...

Your chem professor isn't thinking clearly; carbonic acid forms when CO2 dissolves in water. So, as long as it's carbonated, it's acidic. Interesting chemistry trivia (ok, interesting to me), that's why a can of soda that has gone flat tastes so sweet, there's no acid "bite" to balance. ------------...

Swordsmith- boiling off the alcohol is NOT going to taste anything close to the original mead, for several reasons. First, you aren't just boiling off alcohol, water goes too, smaller amount than the alcohol, but some. Second, you are cooking the product, producing Mailliard Reaction products which ...

I use wax-hardened leather, 3"x 14", for mine. I have two rows, staggered, on a belt, but I am redoing them attached to a leather subarmalis. I am still working out final design, but it'll probably be done to be two layers, not staggered, with one lower than the other. Ok, that sounds confusing! Pic...

Clermont- flails DO accelerate dramatically faster than a mace head does; that's why, for instance, trebuchets use a sling. As you swing, you impart rotational energy to the head, and the chain then increases it by decreasing the moment arm. ------------------ Owen "Death is but a doorway- Here, let...

The bending part of the design of the pilum was more "gravy" than the primary intent. The point is wedge shaped, about twice the cross section of the shaft itself, so that when it struck a shield and punched through, the shaft wouldn't get stuck and it would keep going and hopefully hit the man behi...

Bela- oh, I realize that, but a man must have dreams. I dream of having just a single century, all armed with pila. I dream of making some poor midrealm unit's day utterly suck by making 80 pila fall on them at once, killing some, removing shileds from others. Then I dream of doing it to the poor bu...

Come to MTT; all of the groups DO stuff. The Legio XX does a marching drill demonstration. We keep trying to talk the celtic groups into allowing us to chase them down and slaughter them, but so far no takers, even when we promise to only sell the kids and cute women. http://www.armourarchive.org/ub...

In the Legio XX, curent rule is that you must be male to portray a legionary. Given Roman standards of modesty, the type of physical examination recruits underwent, and the types of training they did, as well as how skimpy male clothing was in warm weather, it simply was not possible for a woman to ...

http://www.armourarchive.org/ubb/biggrin.gif I mean as in, "if it hits your shield, you lose it". Probably be to hard to determine if a shield hit would have injured the bearer. A Roman pilum was designed to do just that; not simply stick in the shield so they had to drop it, but punch the wedge-sh...

My partner's armor is a Wisby CoP, only "concession" to her being female is that the upper chest plates are overlapped so as to be rigid. I can't see most armors being made specifically for women, more that it's made for that person. My armor would not fit Bela, for example. There are extant example...
