You can get some amazingly bright yellows with naturals dyes, but most of the ones available at that time didn't stand up well to light. Weld does well, and was the most common in Europe, and gives some very nice yellows, especially when over dyed with a less-fast yellow from "young fustic", althoug...

I've got a question about those pouches. In the paintings I have seen that show them, it looks like the shape might be caused by the strap pulling the bottom up, and that the pouch itself is round bottomed, not lobed. Have any actually been found? ------------------ Owen "Death is but a doorway- Her...

I know too many that have damaged their knees by dropping like a rock to their knees; I go down slowly, keeping my guard and attack up. In practice, I prefer not to drop at all, and will in most cases either plant, or yield the bout. If I can avoid it, I do not fall when killed. I can yell REAL loud...

http://www.armourarchive.org/ubb/biggrin.gif very true, Chef. When we finish her armor, it'll be a tad difficult to realize that Jenny (my domestic partner) is a girl under all that; the Wisby CoP will "tubularize" her torso (no small feat, that), the gambeson will cover her butt (which annoys me n...

Pleae. As a former volunteer firefighter, I beg you- DO NOT USE GASOLINE AS A CLEANING SOLVENT. It is incredibly dangerous. The vapor is heavier than air, and can run along the ground for an long way and still provide a flash trail to the can and incidently, you. There are any number of good product...

Sir Tonn rode out to war one day, in a battle mood was he, but he found the field deserted save for a lonely old palm tree. The lack of foes enraged the knight, by Heaven's grace swore he, "Since none have dared to face my might, I'll engage with yonder tree." He strode up the quivering plant, and d...

I have seen too many instances of cheating- not a "bad day", not an armor problem, not excitement; cheating - to believe that we can deal with the problem without having marshals take a more active role. I'd also rather ask an opponant if there is a problem with my shots, than just "let it go" or co...

Never knocked anyone out, to my knowledge. Been rendered at least standing TKO 2 times- once by an excessive face thrust (standing TKO), and once by a running spear thrust to the side of my helmet (knocked me off my feet as well). The first time was the first year that face thrusting was allowed, an...

I think I know the device you mean. You can often find models of it on eBay. It looks like a big crossbow, with the string attached to the arm of a mangonel (what most people call a catapult) that has a spoon/cup on the end of the arm, right? I doubt that many people, new or not, think that people will not hit them in an area they haven't armored. New fighters especially probably don't think about it that at all. If anything, they probably think it won't hurt too bad, they're tough, etc. I also can't recall ever avoiding a target simply ...

Allen Smithee is the name used when directors don't want to have their own name on the final version of a movie, because they no longer wish to be associated with it. I got mine from Valentine Armouries, http://www.varmouries.com/anc_07.html ,
however he seems to be charging rather more than he did when I bought mine (I paid $110, plus shipping).
