Is it me, or is it getting warm in here? Look us up in House Kaffa, Widow, on E01 along The Strand (probably middle of the block). Actually, that goes for the rest of you lunatics, too. If you can stand the fact that I'm a flaming liberal, and not let that stand in the way of a good time, swing by. ...

At Pennsic last year, I was struck in the side of the head (I had turned, he told the marshal (!) he was aiming for my face) by a spear that decided that the best way to make sure fighters took his face thrusts was to take THREE RUNNING STEPS AS HE THREW THEM! I weigh ~300 lbs in my armor; it lifted...

Well, it looks right for Roman lamellar, it appears to be laced together for the pictures with fishing line for the pictures, but the shape and size of the plates is right.

My pteruges were originally just oiled, and did not provide anywhere near the protection that they do now that they are waxed. Oiled would still protect against edged weapons, but not against impact.

Careful- soften the pteruges up too much, and they won't help. I actually wax hardened mine (they are my only thigh protection).

Always remember that a persona is a tool, not a straitjacket; I've gone through 5 in the last 20+ years, as I find more things that interest me. All were born within about 250 miles of each other, but span 1300 years, and so are all very different cultures; in no particular order, 1st C Roman (born ...

I'd recommend using cabinet hinges for SCA combat - the original type will NOT hold up (trust me). I got lucky, I know someone who had period-shaped hinges laser cut from 3/32 phosphor bronze, single layer type hinges. Once I get around to making my new SCA Segmentata, they'll stand up to anything. ...

Warren- tell us more about the leather lorica you saw. To the best of my knowledge, the Romans didn't use leather body armor at all during the period that segmentata was in use, except perhaps for gladiators.

Your best bets for 6th C. Britain are going to be mail, scale, or lamellar. Segmentata hadn't been used for almost 400 years by that point.
