Tripping would also be futile, as you can't hit an opponamt on the ground.

Xanthier- what is the problem with the neckguard? Swift Steel- what period do you want to do? Lorica Segmentata works beautifully, as does Hamata, as long as you wear some form of extra gear under it. I wear leather arms (under my tunic), hardened leather pteruges, and greaves. There are some great ...

Even those will need added coverage for the side of the joint. I wear a pair of knee greaves made by Illusion, with an industrial kneeguard under it to cover the top and sides of the joint (be kind to your knees, you'll miss them when they're gone). It looks more appropriate for what I'm doing. The ...

A couple of weeks ago, at our household fight practice, I borrowed a sword that didn't have a thrusting tip. At one point, due to habit (all of mine do have them), I thrust without thinking. I caught my opponent on the thigh, just above the cuisse. I didn't even throw a full power shot, but it hurt ...

Jean Paul- I would include rattan in that proscription; rattan is certainly more rigid than foam and leather. Mind you, I wish we could make thrusts more authoritative; I'm tired of people staggering, then saying, "Not quite". ------------------ Owen "Death is but a doorway- Here, let me hold that f...

Ouch! Even I'm feeling sympathy for that comparison! I lived in upstate NY when Sharpton made his debue onto the national stage, with the Brawley case. Up there, he was universally dispised; he had to truck in NYC'rs for his protests, 'cause the locals weren't buying it! ------------------ Owen "Dea...

I am not interested in portraying a Roman soldier playing a sport. I portray a Roman soldier. I make allowances for the game. Some, I want hidden or unobtrusive. Some, I have fun with; my balteus(military plaque belt) uses my Pennsic medallions instead of stamped plates representing the Emperor or o...

A dished plate, although thinned, is still stiffer than the original flat plate, due to the curve and work hardening. My helm is 14 gauge top and 16 sides, doesn't dent readily. If someone is hitting hard enough to dent 12 gauge stainless, they're hitting to hard. This is a GAME, folks. We don't nee...

Lost Scott- I once had another fighter's kneecop wing driven into the back of my knee; he fell on me. Penetrated ~1/4", took me out for the rest of the day, fortunately I was up to date on my tet shots. I was already dead, lieing on my side under my spear(and thinking skinny thoughts). Jean Paul- ma...

Wrought iron contains 0.2% carbon, with less than 0.5% impurities. Steel is 0.2% to 1.5% carbon. Cast iron is 5% (useless for armor, too brittle). Pure iron (alphitic) would have been near impossible to produce in the middle ages, as they had no way to remove all of the the carbon. -----------------...

Check out Albion Armory, http://www.albionarmorers.com/
or Roman Legion Quarter Master, http://www.rlqm.com/
both sell good equipment, mostly from India (but accurate!), and maybe you can get a volume discount.

On that point, SyrRhys, you are wrong. Corpora quite clearly states, "For Society members, most of the world, and all of the centuries prior to the 17 th , can serve as a source for personal research." . The core may be the High Middle Ages of Europe, but we are not restricted to it. Also, although ...
