Chef-I never said you don't have a right to an opinion, I asked why you even cared about a system you so obviously despise. You asked why a Knight should teach (or, presumably, know) weapons that their persona wouldn't know, isn't the panopoly enough? For an SCA Knight, no, it isn't. That's how we'r...

My 'attitudes' are generally in dealing with SCA issues, where such are appropriate. When I talk about reenacting and the Legion, I maintain very hig...

I wouldn't discuss it on that thread, because it is completely off topic. I was refering to Duke Sir Angus, the one on death row. Personally, I feel no need to be restricted to weapons "appropriate" fr my persona. First off, I'm not even allowed to use one of the primary ones; pila, or javelins. Secondly, if I tried to use a scutum in single combat, I'd be hampered by it's size(it is intended for formation use), yet have peopl...

I wouldn't mind seeing plastic required to be hidden or unobtrusive. I'd LOVE (and do, in Markland) for my plate to be arrow proof. What I'd like to see better handled is thrusts. So, by not swinging full force, you get an advantage in a fight? But that not-full-force blow wouldn't actually work against an armored opponent, would it? By being able to redirect your blow, because you're not swinging full force, you're able to do something that wasn't done in period. -----------...

I wouldn't bother with canvas that heavy. I used a layer of 8 oz canvas and a layer of upholstery velvet for mine, and it held up for several years. My plates weren't held in by rivets; I sewd pockets in, and put jiffy rivets along the seams. That way, I could take the plates out and wash it. I even...

All of the pictures you posted led me to believe that you were refering to fairly tight fitting pieces. Adding an inch of padding to these designs would probably make them unweildy and with limited mobilty. Also, with an inch of padding, you don't need to ground the gauntlet to the grip, so you woul...

Convincing a marshal that linen/wool/cotton/horsehair/etc is "equivelent" is the tricky part. To do that, you need to test it. Lothar- that would be violating the Rules of the List, in a very blatent way. If you truly believe that the natural padding is safe, then prove it by testing. Would it be ok to use a 20 guage helm, if you "knew" it was safe? Or hide a piece of rebar inside your sword, because "you can control it"? O...

The plates on finger gauntlets must ground on the grip of the weapon, or be fully padded (1"closedcell foam), so I don't think you can make 'em legal without major mods.
