I like being able to see and breath and hear. The original was open faced, so the bargrill is a necessary addition.

Many years ago at pennsic, I was fighting with my Knight in the Field Battle. As it happened, we wound up near the tip of a boar-snoat charge at a large contingent of Middies. We broke through, but barely, and as a hold was called, I discovered that I was the only survivor of those that got through....

In a pickup melee, ran up to an opponent near the sidelines; as I got to him he put his sword over his head and dropped his shield, indicating he was dead. When I turned to go, he struck me from behind. At a markland war, a fighter spent a greta deal of time trying to hit my (then) brand new Roman c...

One time, I was nice and herded a whole mess of rocks back to the side so "our" peasants could rearm. They immediately started throwing them at me ! I guess peasants don't really care for soldiers, either side's. As I walked away to resurrect, I warned them that ,"As soon as I get back, you lot are ...

Russ- gravity works the same, it just rises to a lower peak height due to the smaller verticle vector component. The difference will be in the air resistence, due to the difference in path length from bow to when the arrow hits the target or the ground. Again, an arrow shot upwards at an angle CANNO...

You are wrong. SO wrong. Both lemon juice and vinegar contain a hell of a lot of acid and do in fact sanitize. Especially the concentrated versions. They raise the PH level of whatever surface area you are cleaning past the point where most micro-organisms can survive. One- acids lower pH, not rais...

The arrow flexes, and that is stored energy.
And that energy has to go somewhere.

Possibly, but I have to add that my Segmentata does not really make a horrendous amount of noise. It may be related to the way they are strapped, with three internal leathers (historicaly accurate), preventing the plates from shifting around as much as two (which I have seen on many suits) leathers ...

Generally, I have found that simple movement produces enough clanking that the noise from incidental hits are either lost in the din or readily seen as meaningless. If I need to, in a one on one, it is a simple matter to demonstrate that the shoulders make noise. Frankly, I believe people, both part...

Mercenaries are part and parcel of a good bit of the history we recreate. During the Hundred Years War, numerous mercenary companies fought for the English Crown; in Italy, the Condottieri; the Landsknect; truly, the soldier for pay is an integral part of what we portray.

Minor correction- the term "selter water" was coined in 1798, with artificially created carbonated water having been invented some 30 years earlier. Flavoring them and selling them is post 1800, however. Root beer was first commercially sold in 1876, Ginger Ale in 1851, and the term "pop" was coined...

There are other non-alcoholic drinks that were done; various weak-honey drinks, Sekanjabin (Persian mint drink), yoghurt drinks, and the like.

However given the results of my test I doubt that even a solid steel arrow with a soft iron point would penetrate the steel. If it did, I don’t believe it would get very far. Ever seen a water saw? Water isn't very hard, but at high enough velocity and a fine enough stream (point), it cuts s...

It works great, as long as you recognize the limitations of the rig. The arms are only restricted in trying to raise them above your head, so some styles may be more difficult to utilize. I generally fight spear and polearm, so not being able to stick my arms straight up isn't really an issue. http:...
