An SCA fiberglass spear may have two splices; it must be held together with a 1" fiberglass solid rod, with either both ends epoxied into the tube or one end epoxied and the other securely taped with fiberglass strapping tape. Flonzy- I've never had trouble with RIT and wool; red, blue, and green all dyed well. I use stovetop method, not machine. For cottons, Procyon dyes are amazing; huge variety and vivid, don't fade (I have T-dyes over 5 years old that look great). I will get around to trying them on linen, but I've ne...

RIT dye can be very erratic on linen; my tunic came out rather mottled red, which was ok for my purposes because it looks old now. I'd recommend using a different mordant than they recommend, say maybe Glauber's Salts instead of table salt. Mineral dyes (as opposed to organic) tend to have stronger ...

I'm probably going to get assaulted for having brought it up. My friend Marcele (posts here) was known as the "Boobie Manche" back before her elevation, for the amazing (and accurate) gowns she makes and the, ummm..., way she fills them. So, now she's the Boobie Laurel. [img]http://forums.armourarch...

One of my favorite authors, David Weber, once mentioned the SCA in one of the Honor Harrington books; her uncle was a member. By the time the books take place (~2,700CE, IIRC), the SCA was a multi-planet group encompassing all historical eras; her uncle did WWI and gave her a repro Colt 1911A1! So w...

Unfortunately, it is considered legal to block using the hands, especially in "static" positions; for example, the common practice in shiled walls of putting the swordhand in front of the face to guard against face thrusts. I think it should be called target substitution, but it isn't. -------------...

My chinstrap. On my helmet, the chinstrap is there because it is required; it has nothing to do with keeping the helmet on me and most of the time isn't even touching me.
