Broadway- from the SCA governing documents, April 2003, page 7, 1st paragraph: "The Society for Creative Anachronism, Inc. They are only just across the river from me, so shipping isn't to bad. It doesn't matter if it's ugly. It doesn't matter if you think it's too expensive for what it is. As things stand, it is legal armor, and if covered with fabric will remain legal when the Atlantian rules go into effect. THAT is all that matters here. As written, and Tom Justus makes no denial, he wa...

Let's look at this from another perspective. How do you feel about smoking and tobacco? Would you like to see it banned? If so, would you consider it ok to go into a place of business that sells a CURRENTLT LEGAL PRODUCT and chase away customers trying to buy it? Or was Carrie Nation going about thi...

Ok, how about if I walk into some steel-plate armoror's booth, and rant to customers about how they don't need to go plate to fight legally in the SCA? Or hung out at a high-priced place and told everyone they can get it cheaper elsewhere. Same thing. ------------------ Owen "Death is but a doorway-...

A very scary man by the name of Steve Peffley works for Albion Armory; he makes these things, among others. Here are a few shots of him "test cutting" against an authentic scutum blank at our "Roman Days" event- [img]http://www.larp.com/legioxx/fal...

I have several times had opposing units deliberately try to break my spear, several times in the Castle battle by bending it around a part of the structure, forcing me to choose to let go or let them break it. I then get told if it breaks it's my fault because I can just let go. I want to go out and...

What a great idea, Samuel. Next year, I'm gonna go plunk myself into the middle some booth that sells fencing gear and rave and drive away the customers because that shit doesn't belong in the SCA. After that, I'll go after anybody selling filksong books. Then the trim merchants because they are all...

I'd prefer if it were covered, but I also would rather see a well done suit of plastic than a crappy suit of steel. A plastic CoP or armored surcoat of authentic pattern is vastly superior to some of the leather and steel abominations that get out on the field. I wear plastic gauntlets, because they...

A "goat's foot" would also work, and according to the sources I found were in general use in Europe by the mid-14th century. "The gaffle or Goat's foot is a two-pronged metal fork attached to the belt of the crossbowman. A crossbow designed to be used with a goat's foot, is fitted with a stirrup at ...

I hit a spearman with mine, he was wearing gothic plate and the shot caught him square in the little round plate in front of his armpit (bezegew?). One of the problems faced is that, in the name of safety, we have to use light bows and missiles that will not fly as far as the real thing and that drop in speed far faster. I can create an arrow and fire it from a bow that will hit you hard enough to make you think a Duke just hit you at 10 feet. ...

People said much the same thing when Calontir introduced the massive-shield shieldwall at Pennsic 13. "It won't be any fun", "It'll end the game", etc. Then we came up with ways to defeat it. Then we came up with ways to stop THOSE methods from working, and started using the shields ourselves. Const...
