leows carries it in the five foot lengths. Home depot has been as far as i have found, hit or miss-some do carry it but the ones I have checked (Concord NH, Manchester NH, Tilton NH) do not. Leows seems to stock it pretty regular, at least the ones I called (Danvers MA and another MA location) Good ...

O.K. Dieterick, no need to hijack Thaddeus` thread, you have your own. Others, no need to use this thread to slam Dieterick, he has his own thread for that. Now, seeing as I both live in Stonemarche, and am Thaddeus` deputy knight marshal, I have a pretty vested interest wether as a competitor or as...

I use an aluminum kite shield. for the record, mine is the same style as Duke Lucan or Duke Hanse` shield, but that is a matter of personal preference- any long, aluminum shield (kite, coffin lid, norman kite,...) would all be used essentialy the same way. "What is most advantagous about this shield...

"Unfortuanately this only works if both sides are being aggressive. It's easier for a shield wall to be defensive then it is for one to be offensive, because the offensive shield wall still has the spears/polearms to deal with." This is what your flankers are for. If you have a solid shield wall wit...

I have to agree with Chazz-that is stunning bronzework! Would you consider making similar bronzework for an SCA helmet that I could give to Adam at White Mountain Armory to build onto a hat for me? If so, we need to talk! I was fixing to spend about two hundred dollars for something similar from Ray...

hand protection is not required to be covered at this time. one word of caution about these baldar hilts. if you block with your basket make sure that you are turning the hilt so that the block hits the face of the basket and not the sides. i have folded a fairly high number of these over with shots...

Holmgang tourney advice?
We are running a series of small, low key, themed events at peoples houses in my Barony this spring, summer and fall, in which the host picks a theme for the event. The basic gameplan would be tourney, barbeque, bardic circle, and theme related activities. Since a Countess in Barony with much more e...

Lord Gunther, While I appreciate the construction suggestions, I have to agree that it sounds like a laminated sword construction to me. What makes rataan flex is that the fibers slide against each other the lenght of the piece through the whole width of the piece- By dowling a split piece together ...

"If you have a copy of Ospreys "German Medieval Armies 1300-1500" theres an effigy of Burkhardt von Steinberg circa 1379(1397 date in the book is a typo) on page 18 that shows a prety good view of the Germanic style 3 splint greaves. It's also got a good example of the studded arm defenses, as well ...

Thats actualy not a bad idea. I blast through rataan pretty quick too so using these for practice may help my stiff rataan swords last longer. Plus, having to compensate for the flex will probably improve my technique and followthrough, and the little bit of extra weight at practice couldn`t hurt an...

I just made myself a siloflex sword. It is actualy heavier than one of my normal rataan swords, and has noticably more flex than one of my rataan swords normaly do. The flex doesn`t suprise me, but how the hell did it wind up heavier than my normal rataan swords? I didn`t add anything unneccisary to...

While I don`t have one, I have borrowed a shield made with one of the ones you sent to Adam Berry for a while. I had no problem with it whatsoever. Very solid, looked good, no deforming or denting at all, and I used it against some heavy hitters. Definitly a quality boss and well worth the money. BT...

I agree it would be bad form. Once legged, you don`t get it back. No, not even close. For one thing, Amptgard doesn`t allow head shots. For another they wear little to no armor as a norm.
