i tend to think that the fact they are not going to last forever make these shields even more special. kind of like the native american sand paintings that are destroyed after each use. these shields are only a moment in time. as the shield that Isabella made for me gains marks and scars it becomes...

I would heed all of the good advice so far, but also add this... rough up the surface with sandpaper!!! It allows for much better adhesion, especially if you are using acrylics. I have now gone through much trial and error, and found this to be one of the most important steps. It will keep your coat...

It was supposed to be St. George. >_< Whoops. I used that painting as a reference but I thought it was actually St. George, not the archangel Michael. Oh well. Malcom seemed happy with it anyway. As well he should, its very nice! You are right, Archangel, not Saint. I ALWAYS mix that up when it com...

Im called a coward for letting go of my weapon to reset the fight, But if i use my natural advantage to bodycheck or grapple im called a cheat. How is this fair? I am not a coward. I think it is quite so. Why? OK, let me explain. I use full gauntlets. Thus, I am fighting sword and shield with a qui...

I have a personal bias against reaching for a backup dagger while you still have two good hands. You give up all of the advantages of choosing a pole arm in the first place when you do so. Your two good hands are worth nothing if they are no longer in control of the weapon they want. They are no lo...

Many people, many opinions... I would only go 12 for practice and tourney, not only does it make it that much harder to dent, but the added weight can help soak up the energy of the larger shots you take. I have a solid 12g helm, and I cannot tell you how amazed I was when I started using it after t...

I'm assuming this is for cut and thrust. All I can say about it is this guy's armor totally reminds me of the clock-work nazi, Kroenen, from Hellboy. Makes the hair stand up on the back of my neck whenever I see this pic. http://aiden-groundpounder.smugmug.com/photos/354115537_hfWZB-M.jpg -Cian I l...

Yeah well, you cannot win them all! At some point you give a man what he wants. Its oK, this shield will last one day, maybe. Kern charges and shield bashes like no other. Yeah, I figured it was requested by the fighter who bears it. I wasn't trying to put down your work in any way, just an observa...

I just did a quick Scutum for a Squire Brother of the Western Spartans, named Kern. First two pics in the album, the rest of the album are past shields and SCA items I've painted.
