Olaf, I just saw that and was coming back to ask if the aluminum was sufficent. Do you think 22g stainless would be at risk of denting, what do you mean by "safe"- for the helm, or for me? Or that Al would be too light? Would mouse pad be enough to pad them, or would you want more than tha...

I will, but most people wear the standard fencing mask, and that is very light/slight. I am more concerned with weter or not an 18,20 or 22g helm will make the riggors of SCA fencing in general.

SCA fencing helm questions.

I was just tossing this stuff around in my mind, and I came up with a few questions.

How thin a gauge can you get away with, and still not dent the helm? 18? 20?

How much padding do you need, or do you not really need any at all?

Thanks!

They had lantens in the bucklers?

I guess we have cameras on our phones now.

Seriously, why? To blind people, fight in the dark, utility/flashlight, or just because?

Again I am shocked, this time, though, more confused.

Baron, some of the examples in your link have a conical piece jutting out of the top, or a hole in the top around the same area, are these for manipulating/breaking an oponent's weapon? So, several examples in your link are very decorated on the inside. A point for "hooks as suspension methods...

You would think they were just as ornamented/decorated on back if the hook was to be used only as a suspension method. Are there extant examples that are a show-piece on both sides? That being said, the hooks are on bucklers that have a straped orientation, so the hook would be lined up to catch the...

Is nickle plating toxic? A bad idea on a helm?

So, does anyone know ? I had a helm nickle plated (to avoid rusting), then I washed it (felt like it was very slightly greasy), sewed in the lining and fought in it for several hours yesterday. It was hot outside, but I felt like I was drawing shorter breaths than usual. It seemed like the air I was...

Are these based off of historical motifs, or are they an homage to GW's line of chaos themed armies?

Once the process is complete will you be able to reproduce them easily? Will you start making them to sell?
