Re: Prices, Costs, Quality and Convenience

Folks: I *certainly* did not mean to imply *anything* negative about markups armourers might charge. In fact, I took great pains to try to point out the value of their quality, service, and convenience and the fact that I buy from them myself for those reasons and only got a materials-based 7075 sh...

Re: Source for 7075-T6 Aluminum

A 42% markup for the cost of buying, stocking, cutting to shape, keeping the tools to do so, etc, is a pretty small markup. Not to mention the waste created by customers who are not happy taking the same 24 x 36 as everyone else. An extreme case of this would be to say a stainless steel helmet only...

I should pop in a blurb to say that that is an awesome price on that helmet, it has some very nice features on it. If it deosn't sell before too long, let me know and I might be able to list it on the web site for you.

Steve, The original COTT was in 1351, but since the preponderance of 14th century folks congregate in the 1380's, the Pennsic happening has that flair. In recent years, however, some of us have been moving our gear backwards to better represent mid century and fit the 1351 date. Last year I changed ...

I think the 3 blows convention will likely continue, it is the easiest, most playable answer I have heard. I just had a thought, that I'd like to hear some input on. The original couple 30's were fought to elimination, with the only way to re-enter the field after capture was if your captor were to ...

I have to second Donngal's comment on the grain issue. If it is the case, there is little that can be done in a cost effective way to change it as we have to maximize the output of the sheet. They have been cut out the same way for 20 years, and this is still a new problem, so although it may be a c...

Perhaps making the shield corner reinforcements standard? Corner reinforces are kind of a band aid, the time we would spend on them would price the shields into the same region as the better material, and the rivet/ hole combination would create some weak spots that could cause trouble later. We ca...

Windrose Armoury: Seeking Shield Input

I am looking for some input on our shields. Our shields are presently made from brand new, domestically produced 6061 T6 aluminum, (no scrap material is ever used) which has been the standard for tough, lightweight shields in the SCA for many years. We started doing shields as the first phase of the...

There isn't really a distinction of "horseman's" armour in the 14th century like there is later on. Most successful armies fought their men at arms as mounted infantry as seen at Crecy, Poitiers, and Agincourt, and tournaments are fought in the same armour regardless of style, the differen...

I like the idea of a person yielding when he has had enough, or knows it is the right time and situation for it, but worry that it may be straying too far from the SCA norm. This combat is already perceived as a "brutal slugfest", although those of us who fight it do not understand where t...

Because of the 1351 date of the actual 30, and the 1380 leanings of the SCA, I don't see us pulling the strings tighter date wise right now. My own inclination is to keep it 1320-1400 like it is now. I do want to stick to those dates, though, as the most distracting thing in past years for me has be...

The feeling that the ransoms had gotten out of hand was partially that it seemed like some people had taken the ransoms to be too important. The original intent of the 30 was to produce a more authentic fighting experience for the people in it, not a way to compete over who brought cooler stuff. In ...
