OK, that sounds reasonable to me. Chef, your mistaking this for a really simple project just means we did it right. I hate it when a customer can tell I spent a ton of time on something like this. The real ones were very simple, the SCA one should at least look that way. Marcus, Got your PM. Get wi...

You're right, Chef, that guy must be crazy. It isn't as simple as it looks would be my defense on the pricing, combined with the cost of the welded aventail. Without the mail, the helmet would be $415, still a lot for a mild steel helmet until you account for the step we put into the back plate to c...

Estrella: Breast Cancer Fundraiser New Pic Added
As many who attended Last Year's Estrella War know, there is a tournament held to raise funds to help in the fight against Breast Cancer. We offered to build a prize for this year's tournament and are pleased to be able to give a small preview of the helmet we are donating to the cause. They raised ...

I'm with Cet, Windrose has been having trouble with the people who made those up for them and don't have any in stock. We do have the standard cast ones though. The only place to get the ones we had was through us, we had them made up specially for us, and as soon as I can get a place to make them a...

When using shields at the barrier convert to blows attempted instead of received. Keeps the time and energy committed to it down but allows people who REALLY are attached to their shield to participate. So, you think maybe 16 counted attempts, the most truly struck blows is the victor? That would b...

When using shields at the barrier convert to blows attempted instead of received. Keeps the time and energy committed to it down but allows people who REALLY are attached to their shield to participate. I'd ditch the shields, personally, the spirit of a deed isn't really about accommodating everyone...

Ingvar, she is looking for a dished or spun shield, not a simple curve. Teleute, it occured to me this morning that we should be able to cut a 26 inch spun shield down to whatever size you want, it will just lose some depth as it gets smaller and cost slightly more ($15 for the cutting and finishing...

Ron, It's funny, I often feel the same way about Estrella. It takes 5 months of preparation and we have a huge numnber of people who really only participate in order to go there. During the spin up they show up only for war practices, the other 7 months they don't exist anywhere at all SCA wise. We ...

Re: Windrose product review
Johannes took my order, offered some advice on width as I was on the fence about that and a few days later it was at my house. I could not be happier with the product and the service. <img src="http://whitemountainarmoury.com/images/random/newheater.jpg"> Man, you don't mess around! I wasn't even s...

I have a pretty extensive collection at this point and would second the caution advice with Ebay. Like any collectible, knowing as much as possible about the types of things you buy is essential! I have bought a fair number of things on Ebay with pretty good success, but if I don't know for sure wha...

While I was stationed in Germany years ago, I have some small recollection of an unpublished riveted bascinet in a small museum in the Darmstadt region. I was talking to Kelson a while back, and he remembers the same helmet. Being I was much younger and all armour was pretty new to me, I didn't put ...

I use an etching primer made for aluminum before I paint, seems to help the paint stick. Clean it real well before [painting with acetone or something similar. I just canvased my new shield in blue canvas and it turned out awesome, and i will be able to paint on that more easily than the aluminum so...

Can't say for sure how long they would last, honestly. I have been through two shields in ten years, and I have fought some hitters in that time as well. Everyone blocks differently, sounds like you take the whole shot into the shield if you are going through T6 shields that fast. With the re-inforc...
