Okay, I'm game, but as long as we're hatin' on foam, lets talk about foam requirements on polearms. I'm convinced that one of the reasons for spear superiority in melee is that we usually aren't allows to have clackers on polearms and one-handed axes. Some guys will take hits that move their head a...

There was a little cheese in the overall tone, but I thought the documentary, overall, to be accurate, fair, and respectful of its subject. I don't know why they spent so much time talking to Viggo Mortensen, though. He's an actor, not an expert and some of what he had to say was where the doc was ...

I love the way Count Johnathan is behaving in exactly the way that JC is being dissed for, but from the other side. I hope he's doing it on purpose and ironically. He must be. Saying "I've not studied HEMA" and then going on to say that JC wouldn't be able to beat him because he doesn't u...

See this is the perfect example of why both are lacking in the attempt to create a medieval "fight" to the death. They both have rules for safety reasons. In a real "fight" there are no rules and caring about the safety of your opponent would be a good way to get killed. I'm not...

I can't speak to whether it'll be SCA cut & thrust legal...but us HEMA types are excited by this for similar applications.

Personally, I don't see any way a ninja could take out a pirate - except with water walking, which the mythbusters soundly disproved. What the sca re-creates for me is a sport-like martial art that a gentleman from any pre-gunpowder society would recognize as a non-lethal diversion. I'm not interes...
