If they are subject to the Treasure Act, which I can only assume means they must go to the government, I hope that he is paid fairly for them. Anything else would encourage the next guy to dig, destroy and hide. Oh he probably will be well compensated. Of course that all depends on various arcane d...

I'm pretty certain I took a blow this weekend that was intended to injure me. From behind, very hard, to the kidney with a mass weapon. It's become that kind of sca I'm afraid - or more likely, as it always was. That makes me sad - I liked to think we were better than this. I'm sorry for my part in...

Actually its like this, I fought in the East Kingdom for years and took a break recently (Grad school in the UK). I was recently considering returning to SCA armoured combat, but the behavior that I've seen here on the AA by certain folks just disgusts me. These individuals are entitled to their opi...

SCA combat doesn't suck. Not at all, some of my best memories were in armour...and I loved nothing more than standing in the shieldwall with my brothers. However, lately I'm seeing a side of some SCAadians that honestly sucks the fun out of it for me. I know that no longer want to be associated with...

SCA combat rocks. Those who do it do it because it is freakin awesome. Those who don't do it either don't know what they are missing, they don't have the drive to do it or they just sucked so bad they couldn't hang so they quit and decided to complain about it on the internet. Not everyone who does...

Well, whether they were wearing helmets or not during the majority of the combat is one thing. The high percentage of perimortem cranial injuries indicates that they certainly weren't at the time of their deaths. I strongly suspect these were routed troops, and their helms were either abandoned or r...

I am aware of this execution theory (my PhD supervisor heavily involved with that dig and the accompanying book), and from my discussions with him on the subject the theory seems to lean toward these being informal extra-judicial executions at best and revenge torture for kicks and profit at the wor...

How do these work in regards to heat retention? They look to me like your feet would be an oven? Has anyone experienced taking a pair of cleats, removing the soles, and adding them to a pair of turnshoes? I looked at vibram soles, but I cannot find cleat soles to save my life. Carlisle I have...it ...

...I guess this isn't an inexpensive hobby... No you are right its not...but if you plan and take your time, learn the right skills and earn the goodwill of those around you it can be done reasonably. It depends where he was, the Kievans had pants and so did most of the Steppes horse riders. Now there were leggings too, but unless you had killer hosen, you would look like elephantitus of the patella. Then why would he be asking specifically about exposed gamboised cuisses? It's easy to hide all ...

Well it looks vaguely like the one's InsaneIrish posted here: http://forums.armourarchive.org/phpBB2/ ... p?t=119517
(note: not the same, but reminiscent of them. Plus, it looks way better than a standard sunshade).

It's a bug in the forum. I'm pretty sure the PHP settings have magic_quotes on while it should be off. Anyone know where to report it?
OK, but it only seems to occur in his posts (or that's what I'm seeing).

well if you have low profile knee padding and then small cops with or without articulated pieces, you can put them under your pants, especially if you wear the sort of saxon trousers many people use. Then the slightly baggy of the pants hides your cops. Voila! Yes, but he is aiming for a kit of the...

Just a WAG, but could strapping be integral to the sewn in liner/padding instead of to the helm itself? That's possible, though it could be difficult to prove or disprove... Well, you could test the theory with practical experiments. It can't prove the theory, but it could lend weight to it (or if ...

I am a Zen fan, but Darkwood also makes an excellent product which I highly recommend to anyone. The trouble isn't darkwood blades, it's two handed blades. There's no way to make a two handed/claymore/zweihander whatever simulator that fits within Society's steel ruleset that is safe to hit an unar...

Re: sorry for the derail
Apparently the British used to call the Sherman the "Ronson" because it "Lights up the first time, every time!" I understand the Germans called them Tommy Cookers, because they used petrol rather than diesel. Actually it wasn't the fuel at all....Shermans had a tendency to blow ...
