Here is a prosthetic metal arm from around the time of Gotz von Berlichingen, though it is not his:

Re: Chinese man makes bionic hands

Actually, Mike, I know a guy that owns a prosthetics shop and I talked to him about the work because a place near me was taking applications. He said that my armoring experience would actually come in useful in the trade. I already understand that things need to work like the human body does, and ho...

The pieces from Dura were cuisses.

Cuirass comes from the French word curie (leather/hide).

Re: Questions Regarding the Legality of a Mace

The rattan had not been treated, the marshal was wrong in that. One layer of blue foam may not be enough to make it a legal mace, though. If you need 1/2" of progressive give, you can't get that unless you can compress that 1/2" layer of foam to 0" I can put rattan splints on my mace, I'm sure that ...

Probably Paypal, but it will be a couple days before he can start on it. He has to get back from Pennsic and get his son into school, etc. I'll call him in a couple days to remind him, he's pretty tired right now, and only half way back from the war.

Aluminum. They are formed so that unlike a number of brig gorgets I've seen, they conform to your body rather than stick out horizontally from the back of your neck. But you probably noticed that from the pictures. ;)

I was at the Nelson-Atkins Museum in KC today, and looking at an early 15thC wood carving from Flanders, and noticed something. On each of the men wearing mail, the artist had made a cut in the wood to mark the rows. The mail would curve one way, the cut, curve the other way, another cut... http://i...

Thomas is right. Not all kingdoms allow thrusts to anything but the face. Also, there may be a minimum length on a blade to use it for anything other than thrusting.

Another thing I see done that can be considered skirting the rules is to step in and use your shield to push the other guy's out of the way. I would suggest checking with your local marshal and veteran fighters as to what is/not acceptable. Wouldn't that be like banning hitting people with a sword ...

To make it limiting it to period tools and methods at any kind of speed would likely take hundreds or thousands of hands. I don't think that is going to happen. Even with modern tools and equipment, it would probably still take a long time. This place took 14 years or so to get it to its current poi...
