I essentially wear two sets of 'compression shorts'. They are actually cotton/spandex exercise shorts (women's section of Walmart ;) ). One on my skin, the other to hold the cup in place. No jock strap, the elastic wears out. The shorts against the skin keep friction rash/burn from occurring.

Postulating that a shield can be made according to the current weapons rules (call it a mass weapon for the sake of discussion), then blows landed with such could be judged according to the force of impact, just as we currently do. Single handed mass weapons are limited to 5#, and a 2' round shield...

That is acid etched, with a low concentration of acid. That allowed bubbles to build up on the surface, which were not brushed/vibrated off. The bubbles sit on the surface, until another bubble grows and knocks it off. That leads to the mottled surface. Higher concentrations of acid don't allow the ...

I still say, though, that safety shouldn't be the reason we don't do it. It should be Chivalry. I think if everyone fought with the foremost thought being "injure not thine opponent", many of our rules would not need to be in place. However, there are always those who want to game the rul...

I agree, in many ways the SCA has lost its way and now wanders between stringent authenticity and farby glory. Hell, look at Johno's helm thread. Most really hardcore reenactors think the SCA's a joke, sorry to say but its true. This is partially due to the huge period of history we study (celts vs...

They are not required in Calontir.

I wear them anyway, and even through thick leather splints, on top of 7-9oz leather, I can still get good sized lumps.
