I'd also like to note that even when hilts became asymetrical, and impossible to switch around in one's hand like a cross hilted sword (and pommels had the tang peened to hold them on), that the swords still had two edges...

And what if you aren't a very good grappler? Like you are a smaller guy? You could just bash the guy with your shield then hit him in the back with a wrap shot. Also consider a manuever where you blind the other with your shield (whether or not you bash the guy in the face with it)... it now become...

I have a nice Italian woodcut pic of a guy getting smashed by a shield on horseback, and starting to fall off of his horse. It looks like the falling knight is in motion, so I'm assuming it is his opponent's shield rather than his own. ;)

There are plenty of examples, especially in Italian art, of foot soldiers with shields. In a militia setting, they are especially good for controlling unruly townsfolk, even today. I was hit by a tip on one of the holes (stress marks in the plastic) in my cup one time.

I sat down, legs out straight.
I made no noise.
I didn't breathe for a little bit.

It was sufficient. ;)

I had a metal plated cup the following week.

Was this intentionally modeled on Bartolomeo Campi's 1546 harness for Guidobaldo II della Rovere (Duke of Urbino)?

One problem I see is that the mail is oriented incorrectly for a hauberk. It should be rotated 90 degrees.

1 3/4x42 is $10 at Tandy/Leather Factory, but it is white and doesn't smell quite so much like food. ;)

A bend of rawhide (ap. 6 sq ft) is $30.

I know 2 whom use 9' rattan spears, Verrix and Sir Phillipe, both of Pentamere.


I use one as well. I was tired of the huge tip on the fiberglass, and I can use a 2H Mandrake tip on the rattan. :)

I think you need to put a couple rivets in the top of the nasal to hold the point down.

It is a very nice helmet.
