Re: Living it. Would you for real?

By that I mean.. the first gen (us, for instance) would clearly wander in doing it as a lark, knowing all our "modern" knowledge. As we all had kids, they would (for the sake of the exercise) grow up entirely within the LH village, so would never know "the outside". Wonder how many generations you'...

What in particular was wrong in Bryant's Osprey titles? I have three of them, and on the surface none had anything that jumped out as egregiously flawed. http://www.forensicfashion.com/ReferencesInPrintEnglishB.html As has been mentioned, nothing. :D I find his books both more in depth, and accessi...

I agree. It might be an instrument case, but I don't know what kind of instrument would fit in that, and I've seen depictions of ones that were shaped like the instrument. So this is probably a bit more general purpose.

Re: SCA Legal Spangenhelm Printable Pattern

There is a helmet that was found on one of the Channel Islands, that has been posted here. The museum that holds it (British Museum?) has several line drawings(with dimensions) that you can download. Use some math, and you can blow it up to original size, or larger. It doesn't give you flat patterns...

They have begun shipping. Instead of one large book, it is in two volumes. I was told that the cost was also reduced by $12(that might have been the difference between the published price and the pre-pub price). I saw a picture of them today, on the purchaser's coffee table.

Re: Osprey Publishing books: why the hate?

There are times when I will buy a book for a single picture. That doesn't happen quite as often as it used to, since I can take a couple photos with my camera for documentation. One thing that has annoyed me is that on occasion, Osprey will change a cover, or make other slight modifications to a boo...

$149 is the price I saw on the tv the other day. http://www.imedicalapps.com/2012/11/mc10-reebok/ Reebok CCM and mc10 have announced an exciting new joint venture to develop and distribute a skull cap with an embedded impact indicator. It is designed to help determine if medical treatment or rest is...

They are inconsistent, as might be expected when you have a multitude of authors covering subjects that don't have blueprints and photographs readily available like you do with WWII, etc. Plus, some of the artists are...not the best. Some are quite good, and have photos I've not seen elsewhere, and ...

Good to hear its operational. If you run accross other rusted nuts and bolts try Automatic transmission fluid and acetone, it works like a champ. Also overproforms at starting fires and removing eyebrows in one go. Acetone and ATF are common for machine restoration for cutting dried grease and free...

The hardware is a stumbling block. I made all the hinges (20?) except for the four on the bottom of the shelf and the back of the center rail. Mac Eric Dube's hinge video is simple enough to follow, if someone wants to make their own- which would look better than purchased ones. Basic dimensions on...

I don't think that "the Montante" is a particular type of two handed sword, it is just the local name for it. It is rather like expecting Benzin in Germany, or petrol in the UK to be significantly different than unleaded gas in the US.

If you are going for a linothorax, I'd recommend covering this in white canvas, and have the edges wrap around so the blue foam isn't visible.

I think some close ups would be helpful, I'm not sure what you're doing with the wrapped material inside of the plastic&foam. Is it more plastic and foam?

A "catastrophic failure" on the back of the head isn't going to be anywhere near as dangerous as on the face. Their is potential for a LOT more force impacting the face- you aren't likely going to be making a lunge to the back of the head at the same time as the person is lunging at you. Plus, the p...
