Re: Can anyone tell me more about this bascinet?
Mac, I am not sure I am following the apex of the point aspect though. Since bascinet points from period fo time, region and such vary I am not sure I am following the 'point' you are making. I feel as though they are deliberately keeping us in the dark, just because they can't figure it out. That's exactly what they're doing... It's what every one of these curator folks are taught to do while sitting on cool information. Don't publish until you can take the credit! Why would the museum...

It's a pity that Three out of four of the items are about fixing things that should have been done by the mail maker in the first place. But, I hope not to get distracted by how the mail industry is not serving us properly....that just makes me foam at the keyboard. Mac But no one is willing to pay...

Victorian, or at least modern. I'm not sure that I've seen fluted rivets like that in any of my museum catalogs. If I have, it is rare enough that it doesn't register. The butts of the rivets are barely even peened, just enough to keep them from falling out of the holes. They might even be just sold...

Re: a question on sca legality (finger gauntlets)
Still, would scaled finger gauntlets like the ones in the first post perhaps work for WMA or Cut and Thrust? Well, they were used to protect against real swords. ;) I wear my mittens when I'm doing C&T with anything similar to a broadsword. If it is closer to a Schlager, I'm satisfied with gloves. ...

Things often look damned good in books, with the mistakes becoming invisible due to the size of the picture, or the detail appearing incredible.
And then, you see it in person and think "*I* could have drawn that stick-figure!!!"

I don't think that would do anything beside break the mold if it was weaker than the hammer. I think you'd need a male form of some sort, whether wood or metal depending on the level of detail. I have the book at home, I'll look into it.

Since butted rings "didn't exist" in period, I think we can assume that these are riveted. It would not surprise me if some of the very small mail rings that existed (I've read that some from ancient Rome were about 1/8" ID) might be butted.

I have some electronic muffs I bought circa 1994 that I use for shooting, and they work pretty well, but they are only designed for intermittent impulse noise, not overlapping constant noises. Do yours work for continuous duty in a busy shop?

No, my point is that feedback should go both ways. We should also be perceptive enough to know when we are hurting our sparring partner, and reel it back before him having to say, "Jeebus...tone it down a few notches." A skilled fighter should be able to calibrate to the force needed, and only ramp...
