Yes, there is a Dagorhir group here. However, *ALL* armour is worth only one point in their game, which sucks, IMO. Just to shut up all the folks who seem to think that I actually *do* believe that every single SCA marshal is an idiot, I wish it known that I am a marshal, too. I even served a few mo...

Your only mistake, Richard, as far as I can tell, is in assuming that I aspire to be elevated to "the peerage". I stopped wanting to be an SCA knight years ago. I want no part of a peerage that preaches de Charney, yet counts among its ranks men bearing such singularly eccentric and oh-so-accurate n...

If Palymar really did flunk Bascot's helm only because it didn't have a chinstrap, ignoring the fact that it didn't need one, and insisting on it needing one only in order to obey the letter (and obviously not the spirit) of the rule, then I can't see how I can conclude that Palymar is other than an...

A good point, Animal. I'm obviously still smarting from my treatment at the hands of that marshal I mentioned. An awful lot of them, it seems to me, have difficulty thinking outside the box. I doubt the guy had ever seen much full plate armour up close on the SCA field, and he expected my armour to ...

Palymar sounds like an utter ass. Now watch as all his sycophants come crawling out of the woodwork to nod their heads in unison, swearing that he's really a nice guy, and Bascot's account couldn't possibly be true. Never, never trust an SCA marshal to actually know anything about armour. Not too lo...

The picture is about a year old and my harness has since evolved, but not too much. Including the pieces not pictured, it weighs about 65 pounds, which is, as an Italian book at the local university library notes, about the same as th...

No offense whatsoever meant to you Josh, but those pictures are exactly why people laugh at us. .... Your armor, however, looks great! Maeryk No offense taken. Thank you for the compliment on my armour. FWIW, I made the cuirass the guy standing next to me is wearing. It looked better before he got ...

Pics of an SCA demo
I was digging around and came across an old roll of film that hadn't been developed. I had forgotten what was on it, so I went and had it developed and found these. They are from a public demo my shire did in Fall 2003. My harness fits much better now than it did back then. I think I look fat in a f...

I agree with what Jehan said. Anybody who fights from their knees 'cause "this is the SCA and that's the way we do things here" is obviously more interested in re-enacting May 1966 than the middle ages. You've been sucked in by the game and it's culture, and have lost sight of the goal, "the Dream"...

If Arador, the Archive, and SFI were as worthy as the ARS, then people like Robert MacPherson, Bill Radford, Chris Dobson, David Edge, Christopher Gravett, Jeffrey Forgeng and others would post here all the time. If the ARS has piqued the interest of the real movers and shakers in the field of Armou...

I think I know the armouring laurel Alejandro is referring to, and I've seen his arming shorts. I think the system would work quite well. Also, doesn't there exist documentation somewhere for a pair of 'arming hose' in some Spanish work? I suppose that doesn't necessarily imply that the arming hose ...

I dunno. I've often heard, from people who are in positions to know better than I, that many breastplates in fact *were* around two millimeters thick. Doesn't Robert Hardy conclude in "Longbow" that while limb armour might be penetrated with an arrow that strikes more or less perfectly perpendicular...

Maybe a lot of my problem is that I was never in pickle-barrel armour, or ugly borrowed stuff. I saved up my paychecks from Burger King for a year, and bought my first plate harness from Mandrake ten years ago. I'm on my second suit now. I never went through the developmental stage of being that bad...
