Hey! I added the last sentence in order to mitigate the lack of tact that I perceived in my post. I don't think it comes across as discourteous at all now.

I just can't win with you, can I Adam?

If money is such an issue for you that you can't afford a decent-looking kit, then you need to reconsider your priorities in life. Get things in order, save a little money, and buy good stuff. Be patient. Don't be in such a rush to get on the field that you wind up looking like crap, and never bothe...

I get plenty of motion in these. Only rarely does the left one restrict me, and even then, it's only a little. Rhoetus is dead on about the possibility of them catching on the backplate's arm-hole. Since these pics were taken, I've had a completely new backplate done that alleviates this problem. m ...

What exactly is wrong with a certain degree of "snobbery" anyway? Deep down, almost everybody wants to feel like they're a little "better" than someone else. I mean, obviously we should keep our inner snob to ourselves so as not to drive acceptable new folks off. I also advocate a certain degree of ...

What is the Dark Horde?

Seriously....

I've heard lots about them, and I seem to recall that Robert Asprin founded the organization, but I have no idea what they stand for, and I don't know any personally.

Somebody kindly explain them to me...

Animal and Trystan:

Any malice I bore toward the fellow vanished when I learned that he was a Tuchuk and not SCA.

For the record, I do think he looks cool in a post-apocalyptic, Mad Max sort of way.

This is a good thread, and I wholeheartedly agree with the general sentiment that one should strive for a balance between period appearance and martial prowess. That said, it's pretty obvious that I hold looks above skill. I like to flatter myself with the conceit that I have one of the better-looki...

How about a larger aventail (large enough to cover that gap between torso protection and spaulder anyway...) on your bascinet with some heavier padding beneath? Or maybe a scale aventail for some added rigidity? Would either of those work?

I particularly like how Mr. blackthornE is trying to justify playing with two swords. You're grasping at straws, dude. If the evidence says it wasn't done, then it probably wasn't done. Period. the left-over metal filings from a heavily-ground piece aren't necessarily wasted, either. They can always be gathered and forge-wlded back into something else.
