Nobody told me that I had to have stainless. I just got the impression from other threads here that anything else (other than spring) was discouraged for safety reasons. My armour meets the thickness requirements just fine. I did have plans to have the entire harness case-hardened, but then someone ...

Historical Armour Weights Needed (Cross-post)

Hey Folks... I need to locate a few books that contain information regarding the weights of armour, both whole harnesses and individual pieces. I need as many as I can find. I've got data from both the Churburg Catalogue (though I don't think I have all of this...) and Boccia's "Mantova" book, as we...

As for Japanese armour weights: Go over to Arador and search for posts by Iam Bottomley. Sometime in the last couple of years he posted the figures for the weights of some of the suits in the RA where he is curator of Oriental arms and armour. Astonishingly, these armours are quite heavy, especially...

Grainne, I must disagree. As you point out, the SCA is an organization dedicated to educating both its participants and the public at large. As such, I feel that we have a responsibility to portray the rule, not the exception of medieval life, that "...as they should have been" maxim aside. Even you...

I've had this problem with several pairs of pauldrons over the years. Then I went and made a pair of that 15th century Italian type that cross over almost to the other side of the back. I no longer have this problem:

Lance, you're wrong. I live in your kingdom, and regularly fight in this harness: m It's 14ga or thicker in some spots (breastplate, helmet), 16ga in others (knees, back, cuisses, fronts of pauldrons), and 18ga everywhere else, often having several layers of steel in places. Yes, it gets dented occa...
