hmph. I thought it would be obvious that I was indulging in hyperbole. The katana needs knocked down a few notches, IMO. Until popular "wisdom" relinquishes its treasured anime-inspired notions about what katana can or can't do, I'll be just as vocal about it being a piece of crap as the katanaphile...

So they "proved" that mail was a crappy defense?

Something seems supect to me here. This doesn't jive at all with the mail test results from the test performed on Erik Schmid's mail at the RA recently.

How deeply was the target beneath the mail penetrated?

No. Katana can't cut breastplates. This test: http://www.shinkendo.com/kabuto.html proves only that, under carefully orchestrated *NON-COMBAT* conditions, a katana (made by Paul Champagne, not Michael Bell) can cause a tiny, irrelevant little cut in a helmet. Who says that katana are lighter than Eu...

I'm on the 15th century list in question, and I have to back Brent up. Who was that other guy? God, what a dimwit!

Master Glyndour of Talon Armoury sells a nice Corazzina kit. The plates are well-formed, but they're made of plastic. Still, even up close, the corazzini he makes from them look wonderful.

First... Where are you at? Second... I don't know about anyone else, but I "bust on" the 14th century because I hate cloth-covered armour. I also hate any age that had more-or-less full plate limb defensed yet featured only small plates riveted to a flimsy cloth cover for torso protection. It makes ...

Animal's view is probably the prevailing one in the SCA. Though I'm not much of a fan of 14th century armour (the armour of the 15th century being *so* much better), those photos *do* improve my impression of the ARMA.

Where/When is this gathering? Will there be more armoured combat there this year? How does one get to participate in this?
