I'm not sure this would qualify as genuine historical precedent, but it certainly demonstrates that the concept of a plate chest/brigandine abdomen defense existed. It was painted by van der Goes in the late 15th century. http://www.mediumaevum.com/josh/fmc663157o.jpg A closer look: [img]http://www....

I'm sure that plenty of faulds reached 16ga+, especially on the front. That on the 'Avant' harness is thicker still, QED this thread: m I've been to Wade's, too, and have also gotten to handle some of his pieces. I would be surprised if any of the greaves in his collection reached an average thickne...

The guy's name is 'Mongrel Slimedog,' btw. Oddly enough, I might actually know this guy. If so, he would be one of like five tuchux guys I know well enough to greet by name. If his mundane name is John, tell him The Minstrel said hi. f As a matter of fact, his mundane name is Jon. I will pass on yo...

Folks, I'm a big fan of the ability for forums to create community and share information... That said, I would encourage us to not use a forum for this type of discussion -- Attention: Lord, Lady, Master, Sir, Dog, etc.. Is Moving To My Group, How Do I Deal with That? In the specific, this is bad. ...

That went very well. Mongrel Slimedog is a fine fellow. He's a lot younger than I expected. He's fast, strong, in good shape, and worse yet--a lefty . His enthusiasm for the game is infectious, though, and was just what I've been needing to get my kit back together and drag my tired, lazy ass back o...

I didn't mean to imply that I intend to treat this guy badly or anything. Far from it. I just wanted to know if what we see of the Tuchucks on this forum is typical for them. That is to say, I have enjoyed reading the posts of Animal, Bedlam, et al. here and hoped that this fellow might share their ...

So A Tuchuk just moved to town...
Our shire just got an e-mail from a Tuchuk fellow who has recently moved here. He says he'll be at our fighter practice on Sunday.
I've never met one in person before; I know them only by reputation and from the handful that hang out here (Animal, Bedlam, etc).
What should I expect?

Re: What works and what doesn't work.
The lucky thrust of a footlance has been known to go right through even the strongest plate armour. Great points, except for this one. I am aware of a couple of incidents of spears being thrust through breastplates in the 14th century. But IIRC, the men in those breastplates weren't killed , only i...

I am bumping this awesome and informative thread. Does anyone have any thickness figures for the cuirasses on any other Italian armours from the mid/late 15th century? I am particularly interested in any information any has on the thicknesses of the Mantova armours (all I have access to are their we...

Trimming mail voiders to fit
So I bought a pair of Icefalcon's beautiful new 6mm alternating solid/riveted mail voiders to wear under my harness. They are absolutely lovely. The problem is that they're kind of big on me. I laced them to my arming doublet last night, then donned the upper portion of my armour, just to see how th...
