Greyson just created an Archive account, Murdock. He'll be in contact with you shortly. I regret that I don't have an e-mail address for him; I used the Private Message system at MyArmoury.com to get in touch with him.

It was actually your book that made me look up more information on the battle in the first place, which is why I happened upon the blunt bamboo saw story. I liked the anecdote about the persimmons. I guess it was that that made me sorta like him--it sounds like he was an optimist. ;)

No worries, Gwen. I figured out how to solve that. As long as I make sure the cuffs are fairly high on my forearms before I close the vambraces, there is enough slack in the sleeves to prevent ripping of the seams. Sorry, Gwen; I didn't mean to offend. The doublet works beautifully. It ripped on me...

Incidentally, I'm having him re-do all the leather strapping on my armour to match. Originally, it all was that color, but the fire changed that. I suck at leatherwork.

Mid 14th century is his very favorite period, Murdock. His turnaround time for this project was just a few weeks; I was startled by his speed. If you like, I'll put you in contact with him.

I used to fight more often--usually once or twice a week. The last year or so has seen my interest in the SCA in general wane. Part of that is local politics, but another part is just regular cyclic burn-out. I'd fight a lot more if I had a lighter suit of armour that was easier to put on. Now, don'...

A few SCA practice photos

Taken last summer. A friend who had attended a practice wanted to take some photos for a school project and this was what resulted. I had forgotten until she showed them to me this evening. I often fight in a pair. I wrap the knees in strips of wool felt before I put on my legharness. Sometimes I wrap my ankles, too. I have had no issues at all with fighting in them; they're like tight-fitting sweatpants, really.

Josh, I was thinking of Steelhome back about 20 years ago when James and Trevar of KC had a great armoury in their basement and the English wheel was hooked into the main support beam for a massive turn of the century house. Thomas We are thinking of the same folks, then. Trevarr now goes by Brothe...

I've seen quite a lot of armour made with an english wheel at Steel Home; but their home build one can best be described as Arnold Schwarzeneger to Woody Allen. Thomas When you say "Steel Home," do you mean Brother John of Kansas City? The last time I saw that English wheel of his, it for...

It's in "El Cid and the Reconquista." It's not a very big drawing, but it did make me aware of the existence of the cuirass and I wanted a better view of it. I eagerly snap up any information I can find about cuirasses of that style.

Japanese History Buffs: Ishida Mitsunari's execution?

I have heard that Ishida Mitsunari was executed by the painful-sounding method of having his head sawn off with a blunt bamboo saw. However, I am now hearing that this story may be apocryphal. Is this true? Did it happen?

So what were the Scots wearing at Flodden? The two or three independent accounts I can track down seem to indicate that it wasn't just the Important Men clad in apparently arrow-resistant steel plate, but that "few of them (all the Scots) were slain by arrows." There is mention of a lightly-armoured...
