... You can embrace your ways while respecting others. Well said. Whatever is decided, I feel it is very kind of Sir Omarad to discuss these matters with us here, and that there have been some very thoughtful posts made. Civility is a precious mantle which should not be cast aside lightly. I should...

Here is another I find worth my time, although I don't use this style myself. I hope to do a video of this quality of my methods one day.

Senseless. I had a honda prelude stolen in the 80s that had my armor bag in it. The car was recovered without armor. The guys were caught, but wouldn't say where it went. I lost a nice roman helmet, which I had won a couple tournaments in. To this day I won't leave armor in my car if I can possibly ...

Very reasonable, thanks. Given how metal can fragment, I'd want perforated steel over my eyes as well. Do we know if that is cool with the organizers? Welcome to the 'had an arm bone broken in the sca club'. It sucks. One of the things about wraps, is that they have a long 'flight time' compared to other blows and while thrown the arm is acting as THE brace for the fulcrum of the blow. When I'm throwing a wrap, my shield's number one job is to pro...

Traditionally, the marshallate exists because it is the will of the Sovereign (Yes, I know it is a really a position in a volunteer club). However, the marshallate's authenticity mandate isn't the same as the safety mandate. One is much older, and undoubtedly has royal support and sanction from the ...

I have talked to some of these guys. They do not practice with steel. They use fiberglass covered steel for practice and save the steel for real events. Saves on armour wear and tear. Good to know, that makes sense. ... Are you asking what this suit cost to put together? Yes, for all the plate, gau...

Deitrich I've thought about this some, and I think my personal rule has evolved to - 'don't shoot deliberately at not-target body areas, ever'. I've noticed over the years that in my experience when I've seen this happen, very occasionally someone will become very very offended and be strangely dis-...

You guys are truly crazed - allow me to express my admiration. Once what works best is figured out, I do have some interest in getting a similarly protective suit. I noticed most of the BoN guys seem to be wearing more mail around the lower bicept than you seem to have. What weight is your suit? Wha...

I support the removal of blue or otherwise obviously modern plastics preferably with a grace period and help as needed getting stuff covered. Most of the kingdoms I've played in have been doing this for years and covering stuff is not hard and is even fun in a crafty way with enough warning. An easy...

I too am not a fan of combat archery, and I share some of Johnathan's concerns, and yet I am determined to work with its practitioners in good fellowship at finding middle ground. I do not feel that this conversation is appropriate to this thread however, and that no one benefits when insults fly. W...

I like Alden format Wars. I also like the way Pennsic is being done, because there is plenty of time for our loved ones to get up close and experience the thrill of big sca battles against the backdrop of an insane number of venues to choose from. I don't like to see more than one ambulance a day at...

Greetings When providing feedback to your KEMs, please consider suggesting that shovel grips on all weapons, especially fiberglass spears, be banned at this time at the society level. The efficiency of the force transfer is not to believed and far too easy to (unintentionally) deliver concussive blo...

Good Squire Your words move me. I wronged the archive(everyone) by bringing things here that did not belong. It was not done with malice, but it did end badly. I wronged Merlin and Uther, for letting the past color the present. And I rebuked Sir Sigifrith undeservedly. Still, matters of principle ch...

My read is that there are 'cutting' polearms, which have different limitations than 'mass' crushing/punching polearms. Halbards are cutting/crushing/punching polearms, however, so that would fall to the local KEM to clarify the ruling, if not in a kingdom that doesn't allow over 6' polearms at all. ...

No worries. I would hope to be able to stop by such a WMA/SCA gathering at Estrella - it seems worthy of its own thread at some point is all. I enjoy my discussions with Marc Arundel, for example. My garage is my primary domain now, the house willingly being given over to the needs of my little gentlemen (one 5, one 9). My 9 yr old, however, has been bugging me to go out to the garage to explore all my old piles of sca stuff. He found an old sca combat crossbow from the 90s that uses shafted ...

The impersonal portion of such an intricate and passionate technical discussion seems to me a credit to the archive in that other readers may test their knowledge of the material and encourages broader exposure. Even getting such antique information accessible to the modern mind is a huge undertakin...

I mounted the head with a few windings of strap tape. I wanted to see how the head would fail after increasingly heavy strikes to my pell. It did vey well thru even 'hard' hits, but failed on the second excessive. I'm pretty happy with that, because I don't throw in the excessive category out there....
