I'm sorry for being a naughty duke - I believe historical styles are desirable, although not required. Of these, I recommend equipment choices that lead to active styles as appropriate to the health, means, and capabilities of the fighter.

I have quite a high opinion of active shield forms of all shapes, but, if you have the speed, toughness, and patience to spend fighting 5 or so years learning round, I recommend that. If losing your leg is just too demoralizing, a modest teardrop works well for taller fighters in my experience. Usua...

I might futher opine, that to the diligent squire, such tactics wouldn't avail them in crown finals on a cloudy day, so don't waste your precious training time. :D :D :D

If it were one of my squires and the tactic was being used as "other than playful hi-jinks", I'd put a stop to it. Otherwise I'd put it down to "dumb squire tricks.", which can be alot of fun if not harmful. When I corrected the squire (if I did), I would tell them that a pure co...

Historical Sites and Events in Amsterdam in September

Greetings All

My brother is traveling to Amsterdam this September (next month) for work, but he will have a few days for sight seeing. He's interested in sites and events of historical significance, all eras.

Suggestions would be most welcome.

i usually have a buckler in my armor bag just in case someone wants to play That's a good idea! My small round, which I did take to Pennsic, just doesn't fly very well what with the super greedy airline policies on baggage these days. One that will fit into an army surplus duffle would be nice. I enjoyed the video. It is clear, but, if I may say so, it bounces just a little bit which it makes it a little harder to follow the action.

Your sword simulators move very nicely, like I imagine real katanas might handle. Have you balanced and weighted them like the real thing?

Don't part with good armor too quickly. In addition to the other advice given here, I'd recommend copious amounts of slow work to ingrain new movement patterns. In my experience, small shield training will produce the best results in the long term. In the short term it is very frustrating. I fought ...

For single sword I've used both 37" and 39 1/2" blanks this year. I find the extra length makes generating power easier. My practice longsword is about 48" with about 3 1/2 bare hands width worth of working grip. I haven't finalized the length yet.
