I'm sorry for being a naughty duke - I believe historical styles are desirable, although not required. Of these, I recommend equipment choices that lead to active styles as appropriate to the health, means, and capabilities of the fighter.

I have quite a high opinion of active shield forms of all shapes, but, if you have the speed, toughness, and patience to spend fighting 5 or so years learning round, I recommend that. If losing your leg is just too demoralizing, a modest teardrop works well for taller fighters in my experience. Usua...

Historical Sites and Events in Amsterdam in September
Greetings All
My brother is traveling to Amsterdam this September (next month) for work, but he will have a few days for sight seeing. He's interested in sites and events of historical significance, all eras.
Suggestions would be most welcome.
Regards
Avery

Of course you are skilled in matters of character judgement, forgive my presumption Aaron. I look forward to meeting you, even exchanging stout blows now that you are in range of some of the same major events I am (mid-west, west). I realize you won't have time for such with family and duty appropri...

i usually have a buckler in my armor bag just in case someone wants to play That's a good idea! My small round, which I did take to Pennsic, just doesn't fly very well what with the super greedy airline policies on baggage these days. One that will fit into an army surplus duffle would be nice. Any...

Don't part with good armor too quickly. In addition to the other advice given here, I'd recommend copious amounts of slow work to ingrain new movement patterns. In my experience, small shield training will produce the best results in the long term. In the short term it is very frustrating. I fought ...

That's a very ambitious shield size for your height; My compliments. In no particular order; 1) All the small shield styles I am familar with (as has been mentioned in the thread earlier) are all about pure aggression and range control. This translates to being very fit and very mobile - leg armor t...

Very enjoyable - both of you are actively hunting useful angles and appear to be swinging with 'intent'. Is the gentleman in blue in a close faced helm? Small shields, bucklers especially, are very unforgiving of mistakes. Thank you for sharing. Regards Avery Why, to watch a skilled sword and buckle...

... I wasn't discussing that ... But you did choose to mention it, and thus my remarks. I agree that it is a misplaced discussion, let us then let the matter drop, and agree to disagree, the sca being a rather large 'place' affording many different experiences. The most directly applicable is the p...

Well, there was the suggestion that sca'ers in general wouldn't know the difference between various degrees of armored martial-sport fighting and associated conventional/unconventional/debilitating target selection, although this is often true. I'm glad to find that is not what you meant. I look for...

The badge is an 8 pointed compass (hard to distinquish) surrounded by a circle of the Bellatrix Fighting School, counterchanged in my colors of blue and gold as per artistic license.
