I was thinking, "how do you win a practice?" until I read the event copy online. Any kingdom that wishes to do well on the sca war field must practice war tactics as a kingdom (and without the forces of other kingdoms present) twice a year. Formation maneuvers in and out of armor, flanking...

Greetings Fellow Archivists There's a great deal of discussion about this in Sir Gemini's thread, but I think this is a deep topic that deserves its own and I invite further discussion of the matter by both Sir Gemini and Sir Rhys here. I hope some sca knight gives you the ass kicking you desire, and ends up squiring you. If I lived closer, I would try to be that guy.

Good luck. If you truly want the hard sca road, make a 24" round and get ready to suffer.

Well, don't forget to obey the marshals on the field at sca events. I've found the Calontiri Marshallate pretty easy going but they will put the hammer down at some point if they consider someone truly "unsafe".

Have fun with your deed of arms.

Hitting light with a 9' spear to the face at speed is harder than pasting someone into next week. The former requires far more control than the latter. The unwritten Estrella conventions reflect this. If the 'best' spearmen don't take light to the face at Estrella, the test of the field rapidly dege...

Face thrusting safety, especially with two handed weapons, is a complex topic. Generally speaking, I go for a 20 to 40 degree tilt of my opponent's helm, which requires a pulling back of the spear just as it arrives at someone's head. Those numbers are for Estrella, in the West Kingdom I used to go ...
