Kid's Book Recommendation

How to Be a Knight: A Squire's Companion by Dugald Steer My Lady picked this up recently in bargain bin at Borders. After reading it my 9 yr old has joined me in learning greatsword katas. Priceless. Thanks Paul, for the kata, and thanks Loke and Uther for getting me serious about learning greatswor...

Greetings Egil Any story is open to different interpretation, but I would submit Sir John has gone to some trouble to set up a deed of arms. It is unlikely Sir John forgot to lower his visor but intended to fight without it, and is described as slipping in such a way that one may argue that the thru...

A basic thrust can be taught in a matter of days. Effective sword techniques require years. I generally use a single handed thrusting tip when my opponent is using one or against heavily static defenses. m Anyone - from this story, why was it "... a great pity he was slain, and that, if he coul...

Most of what we do in the sca is illusion. I remember hearing about the Tournament Companies, talking about them, and concluding that I should neither attend nor participate. Oh yeah - punch blocks - watch someone who is good with them and see how they change the tempo of the fight using non-blinding blocks. You'll want to have this move even if you don't use it all that often.

Greetings Magnus I think you are fighting better with the longer sword - your opening thrusts appear to be quite fluid and powerful and you can tell your opponents are wary of them. Your wrap shots, however, need more authority. Work on your power for those on the pell (carefully, badly thrown wraps...

Lord Zorro does appear to be an experienced sca fighter - I hope I shall read more carefully considered and informative posts in the future from him.
