I made this out of 3/8" Eurobirch plywood... a 5' by 5' square was $23. I edged it with a 3/8" strip of 14 oz. leather, then covered that with a couple of strips of 10 oz. leather. It's in excellent shape and is over a year old, though I have added four more tabs to hold the edging in plac...

I had no real issues with them, but I'm thinking that had a lot to do with who was weilding it. Could have "left a mark" if they'd drilled me in the midsection, I think, but no one seemed to be throwing that hard.

Mighta been the heat.... :)

It's also a common practice for non-tipped swords to have the tape placed in a continuous piece from hilt, across the tip, back to the hilt. Using a 3rd color distinguishes a legitimate tip from one of these, from an end on perspective. I have to admit I'm kind of struggling with this a bit, though ...

With all due respect, Your Grace, Sir Uric has the right of it, at least for me. I hear "I forgot you had that thing" often enough, and my tip is bright red for 2". While I cannot speak for others, I always inform my opponent that I have a thrusting tip, even at practice and even if w...

I recently moved from a 34" sword to a 39" sword. The best advice I can give you is to not get discouraged and swap back. Keep after it until you're comfortable fighting with it.

Oh, and LOTS of pel work. The more time you spend on the pel, the lower the learning curve :)

Halbrust, I'd venture 10:1 is far too dilute. Try 6 or 7 to one. The recipe I followed called for "5 to 10 to one".
