It was my first GWW, and I had a great time! Met lots of folks, but as always, too few. I spent most of my time doing brewing-related stuff, except for a brief cruise around the merchants and Kolfinna's memorial. Sadly, we arrived late Friday night, long after the Pas. My EESB won second place, yay....

Re: Is anywhere else in the SCA as weird as the West Kingdom
Setting aside our not permitting light weapons combat for the moment, is there something in particular about our kingdom's heavy weapons combat rules and conventions that are as far out of line with Society-wide standards as the Westie arm-hunting prejudice? Avoiding arm hunting is tradition...

Wish I could figure out why the AA attachment isn't letting me insert these directly. The path you are giving to the image is probably incorrect. For images on the web, it's typically easier to use the IMG tag rather than save the file and add it as an attachment. Are these the photos you're thinki...

(EDIT) Yes, but the very artifact of an artificial, a-historical social structure you have a persona that gets awarded for their actions in, is the very definition of a roleplaying game. I disagree. The awards are given to people for their actions; not the actions of their persona. If I make ...

Well, I've been using square stock stakes on my tent for 7 years and haven't torn a loop yet... I did hit the corners with a file though, and I don't let them get super rusty. I like the square profile because it makes pulling the stakes extremely easy; just give each stake a quarter turn, and the h...

Wooden stakes just don't last. They break in hard ground. The end you pound on frays to dust. Use hardwood stakes and a wooden mallet and you'll be fine. You may break a stake once in a long while, but with the proper materials it's a rare event. The only case in which I've felt I needed met...

I bought a wedge tent from a civil war sutlery, and have been very happy with it for the past seven years. Sunforger canvas, very low price, quick shipping; it was a great experience and the tent is still going perfectly strong despite years of regular use. Unfortunately they have gone into politica...

Also aim to hit the rim of the shank's flat top with those light hammer strokes, not the center. It helps to quickly file the head flat after cutting it to length, if you used some type of cutter instead of a saw. That sharp peak left by a cutter can throw your aim off and make it more difficult th...

2) The NFL study showed significant increases in the rate of incidence of memory, cognigition and Alzheimer's problems. But the rate of incidence is still in the single digit percents. And they usually show up later in life. How many 50 year old SCAdians with these problems aren't showing up any mo...

We all feel a great loss but Kolf...
