Also: cool air is denser than hot air. You'll get more air per unit time without the element, resulting in a quicker burning, hotter forge. :)

Here's a decent source for bezant images:

Note that some of the bits there are actually bracteats, which were very thin, one-sided silver coins. Bezants are typically gold (hence the name.)

One of these is listed as not of silver(?) Does it say which type of coin it is? There are several possibilities. I'd suspect one of the following: Gold Arabic Gold Byzantine Electrum Byzantine The Byzantines also made copper pieces during this time, but they were quite thick and distinctive - none...

See I knew this would happen if I tried to make new armor. I'd get all researchy. The first hit's free, then we jack up the price! Seriously though, you're going about this the right way! I wish I knew more about that time and place, but unfortunately it's not one of my areas of focus. -Donasian.

What's this "Ducal perogative?" I believe it is a practice wherein Dukes can withdraw from a crown tourney at any time they wish. That meaning, they can weed out the people they don't want to win, and can withdraw without having the responsibility of winning/ruling. Iiiiinteresting. Neith...

You can show patterns to the world but that doesn't mean they'll bother following it and get it right. A pattern is simply a starting place. To create a properly finished object from one requires not only materials, but also experience and skill. In my experience, it is very rare that a pattern can...

Universities were just starting to pop up in the early 13th century. The University of Palencia was the first in Spain (it's in Castile,) and it was founded in 1212.
