Would this also mean you only use traditionally smelted metals, (no vacuum furnace mild steel) I'd like to. Ultimately it doesn't make too much of a difference. Steel is one step closer than an alternative metal, but there are still many more to go. and no electric tools I don't use electric tools ...

FWIW, from my experience fighting like two people from FL: little armour, light hits.

I'd recommend going with an open mind. Show up at a fighter practice, take it easy, and see what happens. Pay attention to calibration and communicate openly with your opponents and the marshals.

I would love to get one and wear it, but I don't want to step on toes. Now I know the East does not have any Sumptuary Laws against it... but, you still never know (or at least I don't) what is silently frowned uppon as being above ones station. Go for it. Just avoid the symbols of various orders y...

Derian, Sterling silver may work with a different technique, but with this technique even annealed it was too hard and tore. I can guarantee it works very well with a steel die and pewter backing. We used 0.25 mm thick silver (about 10 mils). A lead backing would work well also (and is what Theophi...

Using a hydraulic press for an LH helmet?! Theophilus describes cutting and using dies for this sort of work: book 3, chapter 75 "Work pressed on dies", pp. 153-154 in my Dover copy. He recommends a some thick lead as the backing material. I've used tin successfully for similar projects. S...

Medieval coins were virtually never cast (there is some evidence for cast coin blanks in the classical period).
