It may just be me, but I've always used the terms "a-frame" and "wedge" to distinguish between two different styles of frames. Many people seem to use them interchangeably. To me, a wedge tent frame has two uprights and a ridge pole or rope. Just like the diagrams above. An a-fra...

The triangular gussets are for putting up the ridge pole and taking it down. I have seen a similar set up as yours. When they went to put up the ridge pole, one side caught the wind and twisted which wrenched the pin on the other end cracking and breaking the hole connection. With the addition of s...

Two sides will work fine. I've built ridge pole splitters like this that used small metal plates too (less bulky). A fully enclosed box is nice, but not necessary.

Personally I think the triangular bits on the end are overkill. :)

Our wedge simply has a short steel pin going into a hole in the ridge pole. No bolts at all. The tension of the tent fabric keeps everything in place nicely, even in strong winds.

A&S judging varies hugely by kingdom, region, etc. I really liked An Tir's Kingdom A&S system (many Baronies etc use the exact same setup, since it works so well). Basically you have 30 minutes to talk with your judges about your entry. Ideally they have read your docs ahead of time a...
