I say do away with all except maybe 10 for staff and security and the security ones are rapid response guys they stay at central hub unless they get a call from WALKING security patrols. I'm pretty sure that's how GWW works; I certainly didn't see many golf carts there, and I know the security folk...

Well it's certainly good that the carts are restricted to the main roads. I think Estrella may have more golf carts than Pennsic though. What really surprised me were how many of the people wearing modern clothes were very clearly SCA folk (who were not clearly coming or going from site). I expect a...

The stag is nearly identical to Royal 2 B VII f. 152 Hunting scene They are quite similar similar, but they are definitely not identical. One has a tongue, the other has a pizzle. The tails are different. One has a slightly longer body. There are numerous differences in the horns. The ears are done...

Some observations from Estrella 2010...
First, some data. This was my first Estrella. I've been in the SCA for 10 years, mostly in An Tir, and I've been to Pennsic 3 times (2001, 2001, 2005). I love camping events very dearly. There were some things about Estrella that seemed rather odd to me, and I'm curious if they are just the way thin...

To Derian: the use of armour as an insurance policy is pretty well known, as was the use of heraldry to denote one's family and status on the battlefield. I know, and I agree. I was commenting that I saw lots of supposition and reasoning, and little in the way of citations of hard evidence. Ponderi...

The religious theory is certainly plausible, but I am not aware that religious traditions in that region were particularly different from those in other parts of Europe where there is evidence that stripping bodies was standard operating procedure. I don't see any evidence being posted either way.....

FWIW, untreated canvas of the appropriate weave density doesn't really leak. It'll get wet and heavy, but as long as you don't touch the walls (which the OP should know is a general rule, living in An Tir), you and your things wont get wet. Applying so much waterproofing that your canvas acts like p...

in response to your statements/questions below if the east has some sort of populace symbol or badge of course someone can display it. they can display most items related to their kingdoms heraldry without worrying about anyone getting bent out of shape so long as they dont use certain elements (la...

It really depends on your body geometry. Read your local kingdom's rules regarding elbows/knees and try on several models to see which one does the job the best. There are many people who have constructed low profile steel, leather, or plastic elbows and knees too. The same basic principle applies. ...

Nice work! I think your punchwork may be a bit deeper than is typical, at least going from the examples I've looked at from the Cuerdale Hoard and the Vale of York Hoard. Particularly the bracelet with the hexagonal shape in the middle. The one with the circles and lines of little rectangles looks t...
