I would rather see a newbie piece of illumination and calligraphy than a photocopy. At least the hand painted one someone put a little time and effort into. I'm probably biased though because every award or thank you here is an original. It's preferable imo than years and years of scroll backlogs o...

Tor Magnusson wrote:what is the amount of dirt you get at Pennsic?

250 square feet for each pre-registered person. This does not take into account roads, trails, etc, so in reality you will get somewhat less than that.

Royal encampments are different.

For the Calligraphers out there.. if you are in a photocopy/crayon AOA kingdom, do you think there's a different standard for "Awesome dripped in win" than one like my Kingdom, where _everything_ is hand done? I'm not a calligrapher, but I have lived in both kinds of kingdoms, and the hig...

Thank you!

These were also somewhat of an experiment in speed. The cross side took 5 hours to cut, and the head side took 8 hours. The designs are mostly punchwork (the thin lines on the viking head are engraved). Some of the lettering is a bit messy, but well, so are the originals. :)

Its basic logic - "an aprentice to a laurel may or may not be in the same craft" includes your case. But the definition should be "an aprentice to a master is in the same craft" That's your definition, and generally it is the medieval one, but that does not mean that everyone in...

Funny how so many of us (and I've fallen into it too) seem to think some terms which have been in continual use over the centuries are somehow modern and not appropriate for 'period' use, like 'child,' 'children,' 'flag,' and one or two others. And when did the rigid heraldic descriptions come into...

Informed by whom? There is no "title police". If someone tells you BS like this, then they're just being an uninformed jerk.

When I came into the SCA I was an aprentice armourer (aprenticed to a guy who was uninterested in the SCA). I was told I could not call myself an aprentice in the SCA venue because I was not aprenticed to a Laurel. When I left my master and started making armour for myself, I took aprentices - real...

Are you asking about a specific ring fort design such as with a circular earthen berm and a single gate entrance? If you use a specific example or set of examples to draw the design from, yes. There is some variety; Old Sarum has a single entrance, but all five forts at Trelleborg have four entranc...

As an aside, there are guilds in the SCA. The accuracy of the rank structure within them varies considerably.

I'm familiar with ring forts in general (I've crawled all over a few in the UK, though they were primarily iron age ones). I'm wondering what specific examples were used in the design of this one, especially the buildings. :)
