Yes and no. My helm has needed additions for SCA combat (face and back of head protection), but the top and nasal are accurate. My shield is aluminum. Everything else that is mundane is hidden by fairly accurate linen clothing. There are some minor grievances: The lines on my (hidden) legs are not a...

Windrose, IceFalcon and Anshelm all have premium aluminum shields, and are excellent armouries with great customer service. If you want something a bit cheaper, Sir Thorfinn on the archive gets high end "scrap" and sells blanks from it. It is about half the price. Upside is price, downside...

Phillipe,

Once we can get enough people interested in the concept, it would be awesome to make it a whole weekend event, with the helmschau starting on Friday night, banners outside of lodgings, etc.

Baby steps for now, though.

This is going to be much more than just a Pas "format". We are going to have all of the pomp and circumstance of a Pas, as per King Rene. It is the first year we are doing it, but I think it will be one of those events that will be a "must attend" in future years. :-)

$300 is feasible if you make your own plastic body, arms and legs. Less than that (as Thorvaldr showed us), is tough. The one thing that always increases cost is shipping. It adds about 20%. If you have access to a shop (like Kenwrec's), you can do it super cheap. At one point I was working on an ar...

Certainly it is impossible to effectively legislate looking good. Using terms like "blatantly modern" and such give a baseline to allow for *some* appearance standards. Unless you wanted to really close the circle a bit, as the Historic Enterprises jousting group does, you will have a lot ...

It is in the governing documents of the SCA (II.B.) that all participants must make "an attempt at pre 17th century clothing".

How can a rule that enforces one of the core rules of the group be bad?

I go for as historically accurate as possible for the visible parts (cannot get away from bar grille and gauntlets even with an 11th century portrayal). But everything not visible, which means armour that I would not have been wearing in the 11th century, that the SCA requires, can be sport armour....
