ABS and Kydex have similar protective qualities. The benefit of Kydex is that it can handle 3D, complex shapes better such as a globose breastplate, or tuliped vambraces. The benefit of ABS is cost (much, much cheaper). HDPE, from what I understand is much harder to form intricately and have it keep...

In general it is very nice. The tooling on the cover and back is good, and I like that the pages have a very organic feel to it. It is a good size to carry around, but not too small to be useful. It is maybe 25% shorter than a normal piece of paper folded in half. One thing that bothers me a bit is ...

I believe we've got an extremely low injury rate. Of course, it depends to some extent on what one considers "injury"". Our bruise rate is probably one of the highest of all sports... What I tell new people is, "You will get hurt, but it is very unlikely you will be injured."

This has been a very interesting thread to read, from a non-knight standpoint. I may have a slightly different perspective than some, as I fought for 4-5 years in the early/mid 90s, stopped the SCA, only to come back a little less than a year and half ago. Trimaris used to have a rule in crown list ...

So would someone using a two handed axe with a thrusting tip and a butt spike in a similar manner to a madu be as objectionable as using a madu? Something is worth what someone is willing to pay for it. A home from 4 years ago was "worth" 40% more than it is today. That doesn't make it different, it just means than its relative cost has changed. That is because what someone was willing to pay for it changed. Van Gogh sold only one...

The fact that most SCA fighters are grossly overweight has more of an impact on the health of their knees, than knee fighting does.
