Here's a link to a recent buckler project I did using a solid piece of water formed (for flatness) wax-hardened sole-bend leather paired with a nifty Valkyrie Forge/Duke Baldar center-boss and handle, construcet with a bit of glue and copper burr rivets. I'll have to work on getting pics of my Wind...

Vendors: Windrose Anshelm IceFalcon Thorfinn I've ordered stuff from all four and all four have excellent service. I only have shields from Windrose and Thorfinn, though. Thorfinn buys his stuff from junkyards and such, so there is a little more variance in alloy -- but he only buys quality stuff. S...

William: Thank you for the links. I'll review.

Raito: Excellent info. Exactly what I needed to know.

It opens a new question, though: Is an SCA Pas a good idea? Is it usually a popular event?

Keep the advice coming!

SCA Pas. I was just going to use the Pas format and "feel", but SCA kits would be welcome.

While a time specific Pas would be awesome, I'd be surprised if I were able to get a turnout of appropriate kits.

What goes into a Pas d'Armes?

The other day, I mentioned to a friend that I would be running an event in the upcoming year. Her immediate reaction was, "Do a Pas!" We spent some time discussing it and it sounds like fun. I have since done some research and found the following sites that were helpful: m m m (And a few o...

GvR, You *should* be proud. You you great. I wish more people in the SCA cared enough about their appearance to look as good. That you made mostly everything yourself is even more impressive and a tribute to your desire to look good. Many people complain about finances and not being able to afford w...

If "getting used to it" means hearing loss, I'll pass. No reason to be dramatic! That's not what I mean! When I got my helm, I could barely hit it and it would ring as though someone wanted service at the front desk. Now, 3 months later having no particularly noticeable dents, it has some...

My new helm rung badly when I first got it like 2-3 months ago. I would seriously get a headache after a day of fighting and it killed my calibration. I was concerned and did all sorts of research how to get rid of it. After I mentioned this to a friend of mine (a local Duke), he said, "give it...

If you go that route, I'd contact Bokalo to see if he has any of his leather/metal bazus available. I like that design much more than his aluminum welded bazus.

I can make one exactly like that. I will do it for $10 + s/h. Windrose spent time, money and energy developing that design and you are effectively stealing it...

Also, in accordance to Jestyr's advice, you can get 'car wash' HDPE barrels for free or a small sum of about $5 or $10 instead of ABS for your hidden armour needs. Owyn, I learned this trick to late to help me, but here it goes. Don't oil your armour after your clean it. WAX it. It lasts a lot longer, especially if you use hard automotive wax. It does not run off, so it is only removed after it is hit and only where it is hit. If you have a multi day event, a...

Sewing Machine Advice

My sewing machine is giving me problems. It seems I got a cheap one and I am paying for it now. What is happening is that the bobbin side keeps jamming which then rips the thread (thus forcing me to stop, fix bobbin, start and hope it doesn't happen again). It is getting VERY annoying. Then, when I ...
