Yes, mostly. I've had the totally beaten outta me over the decades. You keep telling yourself that. :-) How's the little monkey doing? And his lovely Mother who is way too good for you? I also highly, highly recommend a thrusting tip. My style revolves around feints, manipulations, range control, footwork, and raw speed. Adding the thrusting tip does a LOT to augment your ability to feint (cut-to-thrust and thrust-to-cut) and control the range. This. Very much so. You won't get th...

Medieval slat bed without a head or foot board with a foam mattress from Ikea is a nice option but requires storage and transportation room. Ikea has a slat base where the slats are connected with a ribbon. I have a friend who did something very similar to the GreyDragon design with it instead of r...

This is probably the soft kit I'm most content with from an authenticity point of view and the one thats closest to being finished. Mid to late 11th century Englisc. Wool hose, tunic, hood and woven wool leg wraps, linen undershirt and braies with winchester style belt fittings and turn shoes. Knif...

Re: Transitional Great Helm/Topfhelm FS/FT
I agree with Samuel. The helm, at first glance with no modifications or unusual factors such as a larger-than-normal gorget, does not appear to be SCA armoured combat legal. I say this with the added caveat that we are not looking at this on someone's head, with a standard gorget, so this opinion is...

Re: noob gear market survey
It looks like an outstanding value. I'd suggest adding a gorget to the kit. I would recommend NOT offering any options, such as rolled edges, stainless, aluminum, etc. This way you can get very fast at offering *this* exact kit in a few different sizes, keeping your profit reasonable. I think 18g fo...

Great stuff. I have already made a silk banner (with some tips you gave me), but this gave me some really cool tips, such as using a paint brush to widen the outside to prevent fraying. A quick tip for you for making the frame: You were the one who made the suggestion to me about using the wood with...

+1 to the painter's tarp. Make sure you reinforce the grommets to prevent ripping. Another solution is to get a tarp from Midwest Tents. They are currently sold out, but they cost from $50-75 IIRC. Get some poles, ropes and stakes and you are ready to go. I would encourage you to avoid getting a pop...

General thoughts: 1) I would love to watch this, and hopefully be good enough to eventually compete in it. 2) It takes the best to know the best. If you went with the "all star" voting style, which I think can work, I would suggest only having high level fighters vote for who *they* think is the bes...

Re: very basics - Hip advancing or hip counterweight or both
A reverse hip 'snap' is tricky to throw hard but can be done. Duke Mittion of Trimaris uses this primarily and teaches all of his students it. I use it perhaps 25% of the time. It is certainly more difficult to learn, but has some very significant benefits. I see it as another tool in the belt. So ...

Re: Top 5 All Around Fighters
In Trimaris, I'd say that Duke Gaston is the best all-around fighter. Duke Mittion may be second as he won 4 crowns with S/S as his primary weapon, he's the best great sword fighter in the kingdom, and (IMHO) a top 5 spear.
