Pageantry of the Sun: A Pas d'Armes - Now with photos!

Let all princes, lords, barons, knights, squires and men-at-arms of the Kingdom of Trimaris, and all other known world kingdoms, who are not banished or enemies of our king, know that beginning at noon on the 21st day of January in the year 2012, the Shire of Sangre del Sol will host a great festiva...

Any of the good helm armourers can size it appropriately (Windrose, IceFalcon, Donngal, Shamrock, WMA, etc.). It is just a matter of what they want and what they can spend.

If you can be somewhat flexible with your travel days, I'd love to cross swords with you on Wednesday night. Actually I just found out I'm not leaving till Thursday, so I would love to come. Is this the time and place? Also, I can't get my sword and shield to fit into my luggage, would someone have...

Unfortunately, nothing on Monday or Tuesday night. This Sunday during the day in Fort Myers (about 2 hours from Fort Lauderdale), we have a regional practice. On Wednesday night, there is a practice in Fort Lauderdale (technically Davie). Nothing on Monday or Tuesday night that I know of (and I'd be...

I have a 12' round and have been happy with it.

They are not as nice as Panther in the sense that they are not as well made, don't go up as tightly, etc., but they are an excellent value.

Re: 2012 approaches - what to upgrade, what to do away with?

1) New hand embroidered tunic based on the Liber ad honorem Augusti. New hand sewn fighting tunics. New shield using the Gryfynclaw technique. Titanium mail (this might not happen). Silk banner.

2) Machine trim.

3) Ring belts. Moccasins with the fringe. Pirates and other Renn Faire rejects.

I use a pair based on Blackoak's tutorial.

Re: Appearance and the SCA social structure

Its much easier to get people to listen if you wear a special hat, a belt of a certain color or scarf on your arm. There may be some truth to that, but overall I do not I fully agree. Like Blackoak said, there are some that will only listen to a peer, but the vast majority of people listen to peopl...

Re: "How could we help improve the look of the SCA"

The problem as I see it is that armor pieces have to be made a certain way in order to be legal and safe in SCA fighting, heavy or light. A Dane warrior for example needs to have elbow and knee guards and neck protection, but the Danes didn't really wear any of these things. I agree that plastic sh...

Re: Greiffenclau Shop clearing sale UPDATED 4 Nov MORE

I've never seen shields made of the 5052, but if you've used them successfully they should be fine. You will be shipping to a business address (this usually saves a few dollars). Please get me a cost for shipping, and PLEASE don't use the UPS store for that cost. :-)

Thanks!

For pictures, may I strongly suggest you look through the work of Ursus of Anglesey. His work is excellent, to be sure, but I had something a bit more direct. If there is a similar photo(s) of each kit, then all the viewer is going to do is look and see what they *like*, not what photos show the ki...

This is somewhat ironic timing, as I have had an idea to do a manual for a while now (you can ask maxntrpy as I mentioned it to him a month back). I even wrote a introduction post, but was waiting to get some photos of my kit to give people an example of what we were going for. I'll do a quick examp...

One of my guys fights in a hospitaller robe. It is no different than fighting in a tunic, and you don't notice it when you are fighting. I made his out of 7oz linen and it has held up well. I would definitely make it (or have it custom made), since you will need to build it to be comfortable OVER yo...

I use, but am not totally happy with, a pair of non-hardened, leather cuises with an attached aluminum, wingless knee cop.
