Saving a spot in this thread in hopes that it helps to motivate me to finish my harness. Only thing I don't have are gauntlets. Not spending anymore $ on it unless I know I have the time to actually use the rig. We have loaner gauntlets. Fairly nice ones, actually. Just armour up and hit someone al...

Actually swung a stick for the first time on Sunday for a few rounds. Arm hurt a bit more yesterday, but it was not an OMG thing either. I'm almost back to where I was before Sunday. Good sign, long way from well though. Offside shots still tweak me. Provided I don't over do it, at least now I can ...

Valkyrie forge makes plastic ones that are just as easy to obtain as any metal one, and when painted look just as good. They are durable, light, protective and easy to obtain. The "matching" handle is a super nice feature. But they do not look as good. Not even close. They look like plast...

Something that I use for the tear sheets and other items where I need to put a phone number on, is to create a Google Voice number and have it go directly to voicemail. It sends an email when there is a message. This way I don't need to put my cell (or home, or work) number out there.

The reality is that many (not all) long term members are very focused on themselves and their friends. I don't think that the big tent / small tent argument is nearly as important as MAKING PEOPLE FEEL WELCOME! If a person LIKES the people around them, they will want to participate. Oh, I know. I have three of her tunics. It isn't enough. :-)

When I am wearing one of her's, I can't go through an event without at least one person saying how amazing my tunic is.

In my opinion, for Viking and Early Norman garb, her work is as nice as anyone in the known world.

I use 5.3oz linen for my fighting tunics. They get little moth-holes overtime, but nothing very bad.

I'd suggest the 7oz linen for pants, as they tend to get beaten up more around the knee.

Your disconnect is that you believe that everyone involved see this as a medieval-stud...

Howdy folks. As a relatively new fighter (Four months, just got my own kit completed) ... So your four months of experience qualifies you to tell folks who have been in the SCA for years, perhaps decades, that they're doing it wrong? Perhaps instead, it is you who are not fitting in with the group....
