Re: Not so hidden armor

Our practice is small enough that one fighter showing up without something he needs and not fighting usually means no practice. I have forgotten my tunic or my belt a couple times.. chainmail rubbing directly against skin is not a pleasant experience. This week I forgot my chainmail (it was all shi...

If I were the marshal, I would not have let the person on the field. Trimaris has appearance rules.

Re: Hiding Modern Footwear

Here was my first attempt. They were pretty easy. shoe-covers.jpg As Blackoak said, the hardest part is getting the pattern right. I did a version in cloth first to get the general size. Then, I did a lot of drawing on the leather while it was attached with tape so I could get it right. A little bit...

Re: SCA fights in West Palm Beach, FL?

There is a good practice in Orlando on Wed eve. I know its not that close to West Palm, but its worth the trip. Good people, good fights. That would definitely eliminate me. 3 hour drive, each way, on a week night is more than I can handle. If it was on a Friday night, or a weekend, I could do it o...

Zoombang for Smaller Fighters

Because Zoombang uses the same size pads for all garments, please be aware that the circumference for the smaller shirts is 38". So if you have a waist (and/or chest) that is smaller, you will likely need them to modify a shirt for you or it won't fit properly.

Re: Protect My Thighs and a few other Questions

My main worry about taking light hist was that I have heard that with wearing plate its hard to tell what blow was good and what was light. I didint want to look like I was shrugging shots so figured if I heard it or felt it, it was best to just take it. That is a very different concern than what y...

Oh, and you know I workout regularly and wear fairly little armour (and very light armour on my legs). I've never missed a workout because I was bruised. As a general rule, bruises hurt, but they don't affect your functioning.

Re: Protect My Thighs and a few other Questions

Call your local marshal. He's a pretty nice guy and can help you with all of your questions. Much good advice has been given here, but here are a few thoughts: I know for a fact that your marshal has some ABS plastic in his garage that he'd probably help you make some leg protection with, if you wan...

Just a suggestion, why not offer your products at a price that DOES work for you? Some people ...

1 3/8" rattan. Skin on. 31-33" long.

When I am fighting regularly, I seem to replace my favorite stick every 6-8 weeks. I notice that it starts to feel a *tad* mushy after 3-4 weeks.

I do not hit hard.

Re: Wooden folding chairs

While not totally accurate, they are a great, inexpensive solution.

It is a LOT better than a bag chair, and a lot cheaper than any *mostly* accurate example I've seen.

I passed that link to my shire's news group in hope that a few people might get some. :-)

As I told Angus, I only have reports of 4 breakages that were not forced. From what it seems to me (from only reading this thread and others on the AA)... In only a few years of very limited testing, we have seen 4 breaks. In all of the years of SCA combat, we have seen some rattan *has* broken lik...

So THAT's where that style came from - I've seen Duke Brannos get folks together to make at least 2 sets like that. I have to say though, they don't pack down well, aren't cheap to make or paint, and only MIGHT be makeable with unskilled help. I have seen a design that's rather like a pyramid out o...

Re: Looking for first helm

Hjalmr's helms are an excellent value for $80-100 and certainly safe (once you do some filing and cleaning up), but they are rough and are not nearly as nice as what some other armourers are doing. That is not intended as an insult, but when MOST people here "beginner helm" they immediatel...
