I think the problem here could be that Valentine made most of his stuff from 18g steel and most peeps around here want 16 or better, OR it could be that the armor market is in the toilet.
Maybe you could check and post the metal gauge?

The eye slits are entirely too low, and the front-to-back dimension is very small. Howdy. I use a brass hammer to roll edges. Shape the plate. Take it to 90 degrees on a hatchet stake or anvil edge. Then roll it over a little at a time in passes on the horn or pipe stake with light blows. Re shape the plate, sand and finish.
