Hi, Good first Helm there for sure, Nice Example pic Hal, What Hal pictured is what I call cold raising. It will work if you use a rubber dead blow hammer, or rawhide hammer also if you dont have a plastic rod,

Hey Hal. Maybe you could draw the horns out on a flat sheet, emboss, and chisel the lines in them, THEN cut them out with the shears, all the extra metal on the edges may keep it from distorting.
