This may seem like a dumb question, but what is that chip out of the crest? What function does it serve? I've seen it on several helms made in this manner and it just seems odd to me... But on the whole, it is a very nice hat!

well then you just get some welding gloves and start sewing at the fingertips, the more stitches the better IMHO, adding the back of the glove on might be tricky... I would put a few rivets through the cuff and the glove, but I would wait and see what others say...

I'm not really one to go for period as much as for function so you'll hear no complaints from me. Right now I wear an old hoodie that's rather thick so you're already ahead of me

My preference is to attach them to a thing goatskin glove. and you just sew it on. That is assuming that the fingers are attached via a leather strip... Post a few pics and we can get to this a little better.

I do believe this is a cavalryman as well, if you look closely at the codpiece, you will see a seam running vertically on it, thus it is made of a fabric of sorts, perhaps leather... And just that Death has the lance, doesn't mean that it belongs to him. He could have very picked it up off the field...

It has both antibacterial qualities as well as very good wicking properties. In addition it is a very good shock absorber and from what I've heard it is also a good insulator. Though it is also VERY non-period so... take the good with the bad I suppose...

I just throw a roll or two of nails in the fire pit after I have a party in the summer to anneal them. I usually end up with enough to last all year long, and since it's outdoors and as I'm leaving, it doesn't do any harm, though I rather would like to get my hands on real rivets...

Fluting advice

I'm making some bazubands based off of the patterns by White Mountain Armoury and I want to do a flute running down the center and then twisting up the elbow portion and also a split flute where the elbow bends. I've only done flutes on relatively flat surfaces so far. Can anyone please give me advi...

Well before you even but hammer to metal, start drawing a LOT more. It looks to me that you have a rough idea of what you want. Why that's good, you need to refine your idea. But I do like the boot and the manica, very cool. Nice mix I think, you may want to look at other types of breast plates, one...

well from what I can see it doesn't seem to be the fluting that is the problem, and I'm not 100% but I think you can solve your problem with just a pair of pliers and a file. Now don't do this until others weigh in, but I would bend the edges of the inside lame outwards a bit and if that still doesn...

What is one of the funniest mistakes that you have made when making armor? When I was starting out, I didn't understand how to flute and I accidentally cut the top off of one of my helms and cut my first bp almost in half... so let's hear it. btw this does have a point, I've seen a bunch of new peop...

Historical and fantasy differences break down like this. If there is historical precedent, then it is historical, if there is none, then it is fantasy. Personally I believe that since every type of armor was created without a historical precedent, they are all fantasy and every form is permitted. An...

use a thin layer of fabric and fold it over between the plates so as to cover the edge, that way no marks, the only thing with that is that you have to go back and fix the slight discrepancy after you take the two plates apart for the finishing touches
