Re: Making the St Remy Chalice
Romans were spinning metal for helmets. ;) http://www.larp.com/legioxx/spunhlm.html Many Roman brass helmets were made by spinning, forcing a sheet of metal down over a form on a lathe. It is faster (and was therefore cheaper) than forging the bowl to shape by hammering, but could not be done with ...

Re: Zinc Rivets
I know that they would be brittle. That would be why they would not be a structural piece. They would be hidden. Also Sean, could you possibly give a breakdown on which is a more effective protector or is that just something that I would have to test out myself?

Re: Zinc Rivets
That's my exact reasoning! But what about for small pieces where a sheet of zinc wouldn't work? That's why I'm aiming for rivets. If it's painted in and then painted over, you have to remove all of the paint in order to replace the protection and then re-paint over that again... for the zinc plate, ...

I'm always looking for a simple was to take care of my stuff. And I've been thinking, what if I can attach a sacrificial anode to my armour so that I don't need to worry so much. Well the problem came that I'd want it not look to gaudy, so I don't want to coat the inside of the pieces with cold galv...

When you say piston people are going to automatically assume that you mean an engine piston. Honestly, the best thing you can ask them is to help you find a shaft with an O.D. of 5/16" and a tube with an I.D. of 7/16" or as close to those as possible. The tube doesn't matter that much but try to get...

Just throw it in the back of your car for a week. The movement between the rings would scrub off all the rust.

Look up Effingham's page. That'll be a HUGE resource to you.
ETA: search for Effingham on here as well, just some of his discussions with other archive members will be able to do you well! It's a shame though, you came a bit late to the party as he's already past on...
