Re: Shop safety discussion: Best practices and solutions
Wow! I try to never wear gloves when operating machinery... never heard of something that umm... dramatic before. A friend of mine broke his hand and wrist that way though. Here's one. ALWAYS wear leather boots in the shop. I've had one instance of a hot coal getting inside a pair of sandals once an...

Re: Shop safety discussion: Best practices and solutions
For grinding and sanding, I'm actually really bad about wearing even a dust mask. :( Best practices, at least a dust mask...respirator if you've got one. Ideal? A vacuum booth with either three walls and a suction hood, or a perforated tabletop where the dust is sucked down. Both require a bit of s...

Re: Shop safety discussion: Best practices and solutions
When I'm grinding, I usually don't use any ventilation systems, though I have a mask for when I'm working with fiberglass and I have a full face mask for when I'm working with stone. I have modified my regular face shield. I hotglued a denim drape all around the perimeter, and made a sort of a hat f...

I usually wear ballistic sunglasses. Actually saved my eye once. A hammer head broke off after I slammed it down like an idiot. Had a pick on one side. The point stopped just a few hairs from my eyeball.

IIRC, someone did a version of this a few years ago and it was posted or cross posted here... and again, IIRC, they had fixed some of the bulk and mobility problems...

Very nice! I would have been very tempted to d a "Buddy Christ" on the helmet just to see how many people noticed. ;) Nice kit, I've been thinking about doing something similar for a paint job with a shield myself The buddy Christ would be pretty awesome! As to the shield, my only observation would...

Re: Trim-lok
It seems that if you zip a small channel off the edge a bit, maybe even angled to fir the 'teeth' it should work rather nicely. Looks like it would be a hell of a lot eaiser than rawhide or piecing a metal edge together...

Re: Dusting off the cobwebs
I heard that soaking sore joints in a pot of boiled ginger medallions works very well, at least it works for my mom's arthritis. Basically what you do is fill up a pot halfway to 3/4 of the way with diced ginger and leave it to boil for 5-7 minutes. The hotter the better, but don't scald yourself! ...

Most women will fit into a regular BP with no problem. Worst comes to worst, you need to adjust to have a slightly bigger chest cavity in the upper BP.

Re: Rust Prevention Test: What Product Resists Rust the Best
I always give my stuff a good coating of WD40 before storage, and a good wipe down after. I find after a while it will give it a nice weathered (not rusted) look. Whenever I make a piece, I heat it up and then spray WD-40 on it. I do this for 2-3 cycles. I've never had a problem. Cool results though!
