Re: Dusting off the cobwebs
Yes, sir. Well... as soon as this weather breaks I will. Right now it's barely warm enough to do some light woodworking, give me a month or two. Defiantly worth a shot though... Thank you!

Re: Dusting off the cobwebs
Mac, how easy would you figure it to be to make a set of cones like the ones that you show and finish them into greaves?

Re: Dusting off the cobwebs
Wow. Mac, that was probably the single most revealing piece about greaves that I've ever read and it fundamentally changes how I think about them. There may yet be hope for me to tackle this piece! Thank you.

Re: Dusting off the cobwebs
Mac, what if you use rivets of a slightly smaller diameter than you have for the hole? You wouldn't have to change a thing at all in order to give you the effect of a slot. even 1/64" smaller would have a noticeable effect over 10 rivets or about 5/32" total. You can check this if you shave down a s...

I LOVE the kneaded eraser. Very handy like KtR said. With the white brick, you almost definitely need an eraser shield. I've found it to be invaluable!

I see. Well that's defiantly a HUGE step in the right direction for me! Right now I have a stock of seasoned Cherry to work through. That's for the bowls. For the stems I'm using pine dowls. I'm having the worst time in the world trying to drill a nice clean hole. For the time being I've taken to us...

Xtracted, I'm actually in the process of making my own drafting table and would love to hear your ideas on how to do each! And when I'm drawing I generally use just plain Jane lead in a mechanical pencil and just vary my lineweights to get different effects, that is unless I'm doing a presentation d...

Well right now it's for my pipe making, but it's a real pain when the stave is just a little to acute where the stem goes and I was wondering how to correct that. Though when my Da and I get the woodshop finished, I'd like to work on making a few small presentation boxes for the pipes as well.

Parts, how's the best way to get non triangular sections of wood when splitting logs? Would I have to get a froe? You do beautiful work! Keep it up!

Re: Need Armour pattern help.
Yeah. Wade's got it. I had the plates reversed. I've only made a few and I just put a few file strokes in each hole to give it just a bit of play. Not much. I couldn't get it to work just the way I wanted without. Maybe my pivots were just slightly in the wrong place. Mine were made of 22ga. Just fo...

All it really has to do it keep a side shot from sneaking around yeah? And shape just stiffens everything up. Is there any evidence of wingless cops with compression plates on the inside of the joint?

Re: Liner question
Well, there's best practice and there's what works. The more you distribute the weight of the liner to the threads via more holes, the better the suspension ( more comfortable, longer lasting). You can do whatever you feel you can get away with but more points usually means more sturdy. When I first...

Re: Chainmail and Leather questions. please help.
Well the 15oz. is defiantly going to be over kill. Doubly so if you are going to be using splints. I think either water of wax hardening would work. I've ever only done water hardening myself. Now are the links in the maille going to be butted, welded or riveted? For something that small I would sug...

Re: Chainmail and Leather questions. please help.
First, are you using this for SCA combat? Secondly, where is the chainmail going? Well it looks like the maille is going into his aventale and the leather is going into his greaves and vambraces. @Alterwhisher, I think that 16ga galvy would not be sufficient, but regular 16ga wire should be alright...

Pics would be a God send in this situation. My best advice to you would to fiddle around with cardboard. The general shape is : )))))((((( Try getting a bunch of narrow lames, very lightly dished with just a very small slide on each rivet. The cumulative effect of even 1/32 of an inch can be quite s...
